@awinter sorry about the pee I used to work in publishing at everyone's favorite tax agency and occasionally had to answer stupid questions such as, "why is the 1040-ez green? I think it should be xyz."
What the what now? How is this even possible without your permission? And how is her priest not a real religious figure?
I'm more religious than 99% of MMM and I don't understand this at all.
I gave her permission. She asked if I minded. I do mind a baptism in the church (since I'm atheist I think it would be horrible to do that to appease family) but I don't mind her little prayer over him or whatever it might be.
Regarding "religious figure" I guess I was using the term casually. A priest seems like a religious figure compared to a layperson.
Gotcha! I hope you're not offended. I was moreso joking and could see where it comes out all wrong once I posted it. I read it as the priest was doing it with your mils permission and I was all confused as to how that even passed and why a priest wasn't a religious figure. But now I get your mil is basically DIYing it. Makes more sense.
I bought H the best Christmas gift ever today. We're going to something called the Beer Dabbler, which is an outdoor beer fest in MN in January. Unlimited beer + live music = best wife ever. Especially since said wife hates the cold with all of her being. I totally got the idea from cincodemayo in all of her craft beer drinking glory.

My nightmare has come true.
H knows what EOTS is. He received a stuffed elf toy in his goodie bag from his class party. On the way home from school he told me all about how elves come alive and play at night. He said he can't wait to see what his elf does tonight. He is so excited. I asked him what EOTS was and he gave me a pretty accurate explanation and told me that all the other kids at school have an EOTS.

@justdairy I'm not offended. In fact, I would not have a problem with someone like you being highly offended that I'm allowing MIL to do this as an atheist myself. ...because obviously I don't believe in it. And i don't think he'll go to limbo if his original sin is not washed away (or whatever term is used here??).
I really love MIL and I hate that she is sooooooo worried about DS (like telling me how she never took her children out of the house prior to their baptism because if they died then they'd be in limbo and my baby is now 8 months and we're lucky nothing has happened...) so when she consulted her priest and then asked my permission to just do it myself, I said I was okay with it because, basically, I don't want her worrying. I'm not worried about DS being saved/not saved (does baptism = saving? I have no idea because I wasn't brought up in a religious household either. So lost.)

lol! What irritated me so much was that it was a fellow IRS employee! He is just panicking I think because we are running out of time on this case.

You're fine. Even though I'm religious I don't believe for 8 seconds that any sweet little baby or anyone for that matter is going to hang out in limbo because they weren't baptized.
We did our own baptism essentially after my stillbirth because a priest wouldn't do it (the doctrine is correct, but I don't agree basically) so no judgement calls on my end.
H has aunts who sound like your MIL. One sent me a cross as "gift" for my diaper bag because I had "Those Poor Children" out before their baptisms.
I may be an active member of one of the most uptight religions in America...but I'm still a pretty free thinker...lol.
Another religious question--would you have your pastor visit you in the hospital after giving birth?
If you let them know ASAP after you have a baby the pastor will come with a "prayer blanket" and say a blessing over the baby. I think it's a really sweet idea but the I remember the physical horror of the PP period and feel conflicted.
Our pastor is mid-30s with young kids of his own and pretty cool, if that makes a difference. We didn't know they did this before we had C so it was a non-issue.

WE ARE GOING TO BE THERE TOO!! I hope it's not below zero that day.

I would. Stay in bed with blankets on your lower half and you'll be fine. No need to actually get out of the bed!

DH is having issues setting up our new directv box for his new tv. I'm staying downstairs and out of it.
He keeps hinting about getting cable. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I don't like the way the cable guide is setup. Why in the world should I have to go to a WHOLE OTHER SECTION of the guide for the HD channels? I like that DirecTV keeps them the same.
DD1 asked to go to bed tonight and then asked to go to sleep without books. She's sick, isn't she? I emailed the new friend we have a playdate scheduled with tomorrow that I was afraid DD1 was sick based on no books. She probably thinks I'm nuts.

DS, who knows the truth about Santa btw, came home from a sleepover fascinated by the Charley the Elf who used the laptop at his friend's house to email Santa. He then asked me to make his polar bear do funny things "like the elf." So far, Poley has played video games and read a book (about polar animals, of course, lol). Now DD wants me to do stuff with Foxy. I am a sucker.
Today my husband went out with my four year old to go Christmas shopping, leaving me home with the six week old. He had his shots yesterday and was irritable, had diarrhea twice (once all over my husband and once in the bathtub), spit up all over my husband and barely slept in the three hours I was out with the four year old yesterday. Today? I swaddled him, rocked him and put him in his crib awake (I needed to pee). When I got back he was asleep and slept for two hours! When he woke up I fed him and he passed out again until my husband and kid got back. I think he might like me more than my husband
My DH is fully in charge of the eots stupidity around here and he got cute and put twinkle the elf in DD's room last night. So now he's gone in there and woken her up three separate times to try and move that stupid thing. This last time I think he started her and he said "what are you doing awake still!" And her response! "Well, I was sleeping till you walked in here, dad." She's four, guys. Dying.
So I survived bridezilla's wedding...but I am pretty pissed right now. She told me at the bachelorette party she could not make DS's 1st birthday party on Sunday because she was going on their honeymoon this weekend. She just posted on FB that they are home from their honeymoon (a day early b/c she has a cold). I do not understand her need to lie to me.
Annnd this is the same girl that made me drive straight from vacation the week before my wedding to her house for her b-day party (not a big one) 2 hours out of our way (and 3 days after DH took the BAR exam).
Brie ours came. She is in her early 30s with two kids and stayed for maybe 15 minutes. Easy. She mentioned it a few weeks before casually and then texted me the day aftwr I had her asking if it was ok and then texted when she got to the hospital asking if it was ok for her to come up or If she should visit others in the hospital first . I think as long as he is breezy and puts the ball in your court it would be fine.

Our newborn pictures are being put in the mail today! I'm so excited to see them (and order our Christmas cards / birth announcements)!!
PS: Anyone know if I can pick up cards day-of at Costco? Or should we just do 5x7 "photos" and buy envelopes so we can at least get them postmarked before Christmas?
