Our newborn pictures are being put in the mail today! I'm so excited to see them (and order our Christmas cards / birth announcements)!!
PS: Anyone know if I can pick up cards day-of at Costco? Or should we just do 5x7 "photos" and buy envelopes so we can at least get them postmarked before Christmas?
I picked mine up next day, but I think they were ready the day I ordered.
Another religious question--would you have your pastor visit you in the hospital after giving birth?
If you let them know ASAP after you have a baby the pastor will come with a "prayer blanket" and say a blessing over the baby. I think it's a really sweet idea but the I remember the physical horror of the PP period and feel conflicted.
Our pastor is mid-30s with young kids of his own and pretty cool, if that makes a difference. We didn't know they did this before we had C so it was a non-issue.
yes, but i feel like it's a huge caveat that they are basically family. these were h's coworkers for the 3 years h was a pastor here. one of our pastors was our first visitor the morning after R was born, along with his wife and kids, but they are seriously some of our best friends. our other pastor visited us at home a couple days later. he brought me starbucks and chocolate
even with just a normal pastor/lay member relationship i'd be fine with it. pastors visit people in the hospital all the time. they know to be brief and to check in at least with the nurses before entering your room.
I realized today that I only have 1 gift for my mom. I just ordered 2 more, but need a 4th and possibly 5th for her. I looked at tickets to a show but couldn't find any she'd like. I looked on redenvelope.com, I looked for a bunch of different things on Amazon. I bought her an overnight bag and pajamas last year, and a robe among other things the year before that. She is usually my easiest person to buy for, not my hardest!
DS insists on watching "Crosty the Snowman" every night. We watched it twice on Sunday. Frosty is definitely ranked higher than Santa in this house right now.
Omg, us too! But he's "Frosty Bo-Man" in our house.
We got a blow up lawn frosty at Home Depot and also went to Gaylord ICE which was Frosty theme. DS got to meet Frosty!
My H is trying to stealthily Chridtmas shop for me online from next to me in the bed. Here are the websites he's checked:
-gifts.com -Christmas.com -article entitled "10 Romantic and Inexpensive Gifts for your Wife" -Sharper Image website -Heidi Klum gift guide -Sephora's site (yay) but immediately navigated Pharrell Williams For Her perfume (what?)

I cannot make this shit up
Mine is texting my BFF and shopping on his laptop on the other couch. Apparently, something is backordered, and it's like a game of 20 questions in here.
"Go through your list. Tell me how you feel about each item."
"I see you sent some things to your mom, and then other things to me. Are those reserve items? Or, like, things you really wanted? Or didn't want your mom to buy?"
"You have slippers on your list. Blue, red, or brown. What kind of slippers do you really want?"
"If an item is backordered until January 8, would you rather open a picture of the item, or something else on your list?"
He is working from a list of links I gave him to order stuff from. Just pick! I would like to be surprised! (This is our compromise. I give a very specific list, am not 100% surprised, and avoid being very disappointed in weird gifts, LOL.)

Ok, I had no idea that was Frosty themed. We've never been before but now I'm thinking we have to.

I have been trying to think of a gift for one of DH's twin cousins with no success. Thanks to the MM gift guides, I came up with a Zoku (cup that you use to make fast slushies/shakes). I really hope she likes it, I would have thought something like that was really cool at her age! And we are supplementing with movie theater gift cards, also thanks to the gift guide.
My baby randomly decided to start nursing again, after 3 months of exclusively pumping (he only nursed, very terribly, for the first week). I'd been putting him to the breast a couple times per week, just to keep trying. He would latch for 15-30 seconds, then pop off. One day last week he instead nursed for an entire feed, and then passed out for the evening. I haven't given him a bottle since!
We're sleeping so much better! No more dealing with MOTN bottles and pumping. And we can go places without feeling rushed back to pump. I seriously feel like a whole new woman.
Ugh. Wakeup #4 at 1 am. We need to sleep train this kid, but I'm having trouble finding three nights in a row that we can be totally committed to the cause...
catsarecute (((hugs))). We had a recent fight phase of 2+ weeks since Thanksgiving, it sucked. Tonight my husband came home from his holiday work party at 9 pm and declared he was not going to do his DD-related chores because he was too tired. Really? All those fighting moments just come rushing back when you hear something like that.
I can't sleep. Once my family falls asleep, I can't. I remembered something important I didn't finish at work today and tomorrow is going to be a stressful morning trying to get DD out the door so I can get to the office and do that task.
DD's pedi said she needs to eat more solids in the daytime so she STTNs.

That is really awesome, congratulations! Very exciting

I would have loved to see my pastor while I was in the hospital!
Ugh tulips, I feel for you. Bottle refusing was probably the lowest point of my first year with C. I felt so guilty all day at work because he wouldn't eat. Eventually he got the hang of it, luckily. I hope the same is true for K!

Thank you! It's giving me anxiety about going back to work.
Were nights hard with him nursing a ton?
We've tried medela, tommee tippee, and advent. Her pedi suggested I pick up a Dr. Browns to give that a shot.
He did reverse cycle a lot in the beginning when I first went back, so the nights were tough. It honestly took about a month before he finally started drinking decent amounts of milk at daycare. He was drinking maybe 2oz all day for that first month, so I had a huge freezer stash (pumping milk he didn't drink, plus an oversupply). We tried Tommee Tippee and Avent Natural, then we decided to try the plain old Medela bottles that I pumped in and that's what he eventually took. I think the nipple was a faster flow, which he was used to with my oversupply/forceful letdown, so that's possibly why that ended up working. Eventually he drank from both the Medela and Life Factory glass bottles.
