I try to wait a bit, but I know they get thirsty quickly. It may not stay down. Small sips if you must. Pedialyte, BRAT diet. Usually the vomiting slows down after a few hours. We had this last week. The more we wanted fluids, the more we threw up if taken too fast. I'm sorry. It's the worst.
Small sips of water until he can hold it down for longer periods of time (start small with like, 5 minutes), then try to keep him on clear liquids for as long as humanly possible to let the good gut bacteria regrow. Then BRAT diet.
I'm sorry. It's likely going to be a long night for you.

I wait a bit before giving fluids, because at least for my kids, it just comes back up immediately. Obviously if the puking goes on for an extended time, I'll at least try here and there. But generally the puking part "only" lasts 1-6 hrs when my kids get it so I wait until it seems to be dying down and then start with small bits of water every 1/2 hour. If that goes well... A little more. If that goes well , I give a little toast, crackers, or chicken noodle soup.
Then it's a day+ of exhaustion and recovery. I'm sorry he is sick...hope it passes fast! DD2 had it 2 weeks ago and DD1 had it earlier this week. Not fun :-(
I agree to have extra stuff out and ready to go. Sheets, Jammie's, towels. Be prepared!
Ok. I'm having him sleep with me so hopefully he can act fast. Poor thing. We had spaghetti with meat sauce and I came to his room and he held his hands up and said "boogers?" The second time he said he was scared
Poor baby. I hope he feels better soon. There is a stomach bug going around, but hopefully you're right about it being food related. I put a towel down on my bed when they are pukey and sleeping with me. It helps you not have to change sheets every time there is even a small amount of throw up.
Ok I pulled SDS mattress into his room and I'm using throw blankets. My bed has a down comforter and all kinds of complications. He almost puked on it so I decided to move. Yikes.
This is when you get out all those receiving blankets that were deemed useless and cover anything and everything near him. Including coving him. Especially in the carseat.
Brought to you by 2 weeks of non-stoping puking, with still lingering daily threats.
Attempting sleep during this isn't worth it. I cover a couch with quilts, set them up with a bucket, and we watch movies until it's passed.
I also don't give them water unless they beg for it or it's been an hour since they last puked. Solid foods come after a nice long sleep since the last puke.
I'm sorry. It's horrible. Especially the first few times it happens.
Ugh. Both of my kids had this around Thanksgiving. Extra blankets, make sure your dryer is empty-youll be washing a lot of things. Cool rag on his head and don't give him anything to eat or drink yet. And yes, the milestone of knowing your kid can make it to the toilet to puke is one of the most important milestones EVER. Seriously.
I pulled SDs mattress in there, covered it in blankets and towels and we did ok. He didn't get anything on his bed or SDs mattress, just pjs and towels.
Last puke was at 3 am. Massive poop at 6 am that smelled just like the puke though. He asked for a bath, poor buddy. He didn't even.play with toys just sat in thr water and wanted to be clean.
We are watching cartoons, he's had maybe 3 oz of water because he cried for it. I'm waiting to see if he keeps it down and then maybe dry cheerios? Thanks so much for your help guys. I'm so grateful. I don't know anyone here, I don't have family and DH is gone so I really appreciate the help.
DH is going to try to get an earlier flight home. Fingers crossed. I'm exhausted.
