In the past few weeks, I have seen threads about "your first car," your mortgage company, and your birthday (though no year). I started to get a bit uneasy about all this info being in one place. Please remember to be careful about what you share especially when the question is a common question on password reset websites.
On the other hand, I'm wondering if some of us could easily access some bank accounts by knowing someone's first car, favorite movie, and the high school mascot. Bank questions need to be harder!

There was an episode of a crime tv show that focused on this. It was a guy who would go to "Speed dating" places and would ask his potential date what seemed like innocuous questions. Turned out, they were all securit questions and he would use the info to steal their $.

I don't put real answers to those questions. I'm from a small town and ANYONE would know the answers to most of those security questions. I'm too paranoid to use real info.
Agreed good reminder! Possibly stupid question - If people don't know your login name, does it matter if they know an answer to a security question? You sorta need both, right?

Yeah, most websites have a way to reset the account if you forgot the login name too, though.
But all of my bank websites require a hell of a lot more than a random security question to get into an account. Most of them want a verification sent via text or email. So I guess whomever wants to hack my bank logon also needs to hack my email, but if they can't figure out my email password they'd also need to hack my phone.
All so they can be sorely disappointed by my checking account balance. lol
