AG, the difference is that you guys are saying it's stupid and then calling everyone who does it stupid. The people who tip don't give a fuck if others do the same or not.
I said the act of tipping at christmas for someone not going above and beyond is stupid. Where did anyone say someone was an idiot? I called beantrees stupid for comparing teachers and garbage men. You are pulling shit out of your ass.

Yeah -- Eagles is my real life actual friend. I never called her stupid. So no.
Perhaps not, and maybe not you in particular, but there have been a lot of insults from that side of the argument. I have a goldfish brain and don't have the energy to go back and pick out exactly who said each thing.

I just re read the whole post and no one was called an idiot for gifting!

Well o do have the time and I am sorry you felt that way but no one was called an idiot by anyone except beantrees and that's pretty much common sense.
Because apparently we're dumbasses if we tip people for doing their jobs and/or we are creating a culture where everyone thinks they are entitled to tips and presents because they do their jobs. /sarcasm
I'll tip the people I want if I want to, be they my garbage man or UPS guy. I give zero fucks if someone here thinks I'm an idiot for doing so. Just because you don't know or ever see your garbage man or UPS man doesn't mean we don't see ours. You know who bags your groceries? I don't think any of our stores have baggers, unless it's mad slow, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had the same cashier this year.
Yep I know the guy Jason at our grocery store he is a sophomore and is majoring in economics. He finally decided to get his dad a new electric razor for Christmas. He is amazingly nice and i choose his line when I can. I still didn't tip him.
Like I said if they go above and beyond like your garbage man then great I get the tip thing but for doing their job? Nope!
And laugh out fucking loud that I can't have an opinion that it's stupid but you can have one that it's cool to tip everyone.
a) I never said I tip everyone. I tip two, count them , TWO, entities that I feel go above and beyond what's required for my family, who I see 2-3x a week. Does my neighbor tip them? No idea and I don't care. I absolutely don't think everyone and their mother deserves a tip at the holidays.
b) I'm not the one who has sat here for over two pages of posts to defend my position that tipping the UPS man at Christmastime is a waste of money/idiotic/whatever. You keep beating that drum of yours, though.

Okay, I revise my answer...it is more being made to feel stupid by the million "Who does that, seriously?" and "that's ridiculous" and "people just do it to be an AW" posts. Is that a better statement?
FTR, I don't tip my postal workers or UPS guys. I just don't care if people do, so long as they're not out there expecting fanfare for it.

I do think it's stupid and as I have said I am also on a 12 hour drive so I have nothing but time.
Since you are struggling reading today I will say it again. I understand tipping for someone going above and beyond not for someone doing their job.
Let's get one thing straight - wawa is infinitely superior to sheetz.
Considering some of us have said we remember our families gifting the letter carrier (or whoever) 25-30 years ago but it is still not commonplace at all, I fail to see how it will become expected.
It's obviously situational, but our letter carrier, Lewis, is wonderful. He's cheerful, kind, asks about the baby, engages the kids, always lets me know if I have a package coming, etc. But our mail is delivered to a mail slot In our door. He physically walks to my porch daily and if my heavy door is open, he calls out, "mail," so I can get it. I know most of this is his job, but he's the best letter carrier I've had and due to the nature of our set up (to the door) I see him very often, even though I'm plenty "busy."

Ours delivers to the mailbox and never gets out of his/her truck.

And never ever a meat tray.
Dude, I read what you wrote. I get it. You don't think everyone deserves a tip, only those that go above "the call of duty." I saw that post after my last response. I don't read every post in between the posts I write sometimes. It doesn't mean I struggle to read and comprehend.
But apparently insulting my intelligence is par for the course, so, hey go ahead.

Oh FFS you are off today. I never insulted your intelligence I said you couldn't read today and you just proved that again!!! I really like the new feisty mrs muq when you actually read posts before you respond.

Right, j understand that. That's why its situational and why you hardly see yours. I'm trying to explain why someone might know their letter carrier better.

No I get it. In that case I get a tip. I still think the tipping culture in general is over the top.

I've read the whole thread at this point. I think you were a bit over the top in some of your responses and they did come off as a bit demeaning, but that's my reading of it.
But we can both agree meat trays as gifts are never okay, and not everyone deserves to get tips.

I did not mean to be demeaning except about the meat tray. Did you see my link?
