You know how normally when you come back you're glad to be home? Yeah. Not so much this time.
We went Sunday-Thursday, and stayed at Playa Grande resort. Great place! Our room was very nice (albeit far from the pool) and the resort was super clean. There is a little bit of post-hurricane construction going on, but it was pretty unobtrusive. The guests swayed older, but there were still some Spring Breakers running around. Fairly avoidable though.
We loved laying by the pool, and happy hour had 2 for 1 drinks on cocktails and beers, so it was actually a pretty good deal. None of the food at the resort was particularly good, but not surprising. They had a couple of theme nights (Mexican Fiesta and Beach Party) but we didn't go.
The location put us in a great spot for walking around town. We hit up the marina pretty regularly, although H got pretty tired of all the vendors wanting to take us fishing and what not. I would too, but Ghana definitely prepared me for that.
We had the most amazing lunch at Los Guacamayas, which our shuttle driver recommended (we used Cielito Lindo, two huge thumbs up!!). We got this firey hot stone ground bowl with cheese, cactus, onions, etc. and had skirt steak and the most incredible marinated pork I've ever had.
We also hit up Los Tres Gallos, although I sort of took us through a hood I probably shouldn't have to get there. H wasn't real pleased with me, but we made it just fine :-) H had some pork dish that was really good. I had a Chile Rilleno that had too much cheese (if that's possible) but the black beans were SO good.
We didn't really hit up the shit show of partiers at the bars at night, but that's fine by me.
Overall, it was a great experience. H would like to try an AI, probably in San Jose del Cabo, next time as a comparison. But I don't see how this won't be an annual December thing. So warm and sunny! I got burned on an overcast day, lol.
Thanks for the encouragement to finally hit up Mexico!
Glad you had fun! My family is talking about taking another family vacation next year, and I was vaguely thinking about suggesting Cabo. Now I'll move it up on the list of suggestions
