Ds1 is eating the oat and sugar topping I was making for an apple crisp. I'm just letting him go to town because Yay, oats are good fiber. We're hosting our 10th Annual Christmas Dinner with friends tonight. We're all in young children stage so toddlers are going to out number adults. Should be interesting... The wine will be flowing
DH got me my first pair of Hanky Pankies and gave them to me this morning so I wouldn't have to open them in front of family on Xmas. Holy crap they are so comfortable, I love them. I have a coupon code from them this morning for $20 off and am tempted to purchase more already :/

This has inspired me to break out my HPs, which I haven't worn since the beginning of my pregnancy, lol.
I had posted we got rid of our real Christmas tree on Wednesday because DS was majorly wheezing & coughing this week. I was slightly bummed that we wouldn't have a tree for Christmas, but my cheap side was winning because I rather buy a fake after Christmas on clearance. I kept telling myself it wouldn't matter, DS is only 14 months, he doesn't know the difference... But he kept pointing to the corner where the tree was and saying, 'All Done!'
BIL to the rescue! He showed up with a fake he had in his basement, pre-lit and everything! Christmas is back on! I mean, I don't think I'm going to bother with garland and ornaments again, DS just loves the lights. But we have a tree to put presents under!
So...we started Ferber last night. It did not go well.
He goes right to sleep with no problem, but the MOTN wakings have become long and painful. I don't get it.
Hang in there! We're two nights in, using Sleep Sense. Are you still giving a feeding at night? I decided I'd offer one feeding, if she wakes after midnight. The initial bedtime has been brutal for us, but MOTN has gone a lot better than I expected. It's so, so hard but I know we've both been through the wringer with sleep deprivation and we need to teach our babies these skills.

I felt like I needed to spice it up a bit since having the babies so am glad I sent DH the link. After pregnancy and the babies it feels nice to wear pretty undies!
S/o do you wash yours by hand like the tag says or in the washing machine? I was hoping they'd be ok in the washing machine in cold water and mild detergent.
C had his first code brown in the bathtub this morning (tulips twinsies!). After I cleaned it up, I showered while C wandered between his room and the bathroom. While I was in there, he took the bag out of the bathroom trash and played with it, including pretending to drink out of used dixie cups...one of which I peed in earlier this week to take a Wondfo.

He's exactly 4 or 5 months right?
I'll say that we started sleep training* around 4 months to reduce MOTN wake ups and it was a mistake. After a miserable month we stopped trying and just got used to two wake ups a night for until he was about 10 or 11 months when he just stopped (each wake up was about 20 minutes to nurse, not a big deal really looking back).
* I say sleep training but we weren't following any specific plan. I basically just didn't want to have to nurse at every wake up so we worked on trying to eliminate feedings. It did not go well.
My point is in retrospect I wish we had waited a few months to really start the training.
My other more positive point is that it was one night. Keep trying for a few nights and see if it gets better. You can't really base anything on one night.
He's 4.5 months. I'm worried that it's too early. But we are just so, so frustrated. The past five nights he's gone to bed easily and then woken up within two hours. I know he can self-soothe (he sucks his thumb), but he has trouble in the MOTN.
I guess we'll give it a go for a week or so and then resign ourselves to zombie mode if it doesn't work.

Yes, one feeding here too. I fed him at 1 am and he went back down easily until 5 am. Silver lining?

I wash mine on the delicate cycle and hang to dry, and they're absolutely fine. I've been wearing HPs for years, and the only time I've had to toss a pair has been when Biscuit ate them. /gross
Good job kdubs923 BIL! DH is allergic to real trees too, has been since childhood. He REALLY wanted to try a real tree a few years ago, he was sure he'd "grown out of the allergy by now." So we bought a real tree, put it up, decorated it. Cue 2 weeks of him sniffling, coughing, itchy eyes. He was like "it's just a cold." NO, it's the tree, obviously. Took the whole thing down the week before Christmas and he was better almost overnight.
DS, my mom and I did some last-minute shopping on Main Street this morning. I love our little town. A whole street of independent shops, all walkable, decorated for Christmas. DS was given lollipops at TWO different stores! He was in heaven.
He behaved wonderfully, right up until the very end when he lost it. When he's tired around my mom, he's so rude to her. Yelling "NO!", grabbing things from her, yelling "NO SMILE (at) me!" (Or no singing, no laughing, whatever else she's doing). I've been cracking down hard on this behavior b/c my mom is a SAINT and DS cannot speak to her that way. After several warnings today, he lost books on the iPad, but he kept doing it and lost regular books too. Good grief.
About 2 months ago, I contracted with a local wood smith for a mirror with hooks for our entryway. I've been waiting a long time, we've been exchanging emails for weeks! It's finally ready, I just picked it up.
It looks GREAT! Solid, beautiful, imperfections in the wood like I love. Very pleased!
I ran out to target last night at 10 pm to get my niece a batman sweatshirt, and I was shocked at how insane it was. I had forgotten the world exists after 7 pm when Ds goes to bed lol. I kind of wtf'd how many kids were out at 10:45 though. There was a three year old melting down and I just felt bad for him :/
(And yes I know some kids go to bed late blah blah blah)
I had to go to the post office today but went to one in an ace hardware and I was in and out in five minutes!!!! And they were so nice and i got a free calendar. Never going to a regular usps again.

We had family photos taken this morning. I didn't plan our outfits at all, which resulted in a last minute scramble to find an outfit for DD that worked with the rest of us. Ended up opening some gifts to her and found a dress that worked that was only one size too big. DH's aunt and uncle will be pleased their gift is on our Christmas card, lol. And oh man was DS squirrely. I think we probably got some photos we can use? I don't want to do a re shoot. I'm so tired now!

I just complimented my MILs top and she reminded me that she bought it at Target last year. Yep, it's the Target tunic in England!
Also, I have fallen to position #6 on DD's list. Her new preference for any kind of interaction is:
Grandma Auntie Becky Benji (10 yo cousin) Jack (13 yo cousin) Daddy Mummy I can't get near her. More family arrives Christmas Day. I imagine I will drop to double digits
I use our basement guest bedroom to store all the crap I buy for Christmas as it arrives/I buy it.
Since MIL was here last weekend, I had to move everything before she got here and now I can't find a bunch of gifts. Gah. As far as I can remember, it's only clothes for my nephew and a few movies. I have torn apart the basement and sent DH down there as "fresh eyes" which is down right comical now that I type it out. He's the most unobservant man on the planet lol.

DS exudes a strong fishy smell anytime I eat any kind of fish, no matter the amount. I had two little anchovies last night and he smells like he just came from the sea. Weird.
I don't remember this happening with DD, but I guess I wasn't getting many square meals during the colicky months.
