A quarter of my molar tooth just broke off! Anyone know if it can be repaired during pregnancy? It's not painful - it might have been an old filling that came out.
I had to have some dental work last time. They tried to avoid X-rays (but I also had a full set of bite wings done before I knew I was pregnant w/o a problem) and put off non-urgent work until I delivered, but I did have a crown replaced and something else (I forgot) while pregnant.
I just chipped off a part of a tooth a week ago, and I'm 28 weeks pregnant. I went to the dentist, and they told me they could either shave the chipped part down a little so it wouldn't be so sharp and wait until after delivery to fix it since it wasn't hurting me, or they could fill it without any pain medicine. I was scared, but had the dentist just fix it there, and it was just fine. It didn't hurt at all. If the chip had been bigger, then I'm not sure what they would've done. I hope it's an easy fix, and it goes well!
I had quite a bit of dental work done during my pregnancies ranging from fillings to root canals. My dentist did require a doctors note that I could. I did have several X-rays but they doubled up on the cape thing they put around you.
I just had to have 3 fillings done (they were old fillings that got more decay underneath). They said they usually do it in the 2nd trimester for safety reasons and I did get pain meds. They explained how they were safe and only a little pass through the placenta. They also said it's better to take care of dental problems and have a little medicine rather than getting an infection or needing more serious work from letting it go. That made sense to me.
I had to get a root canal while pregnant, I had to go to an oral surgeon bc my dentist wouldn't do it, actually she wouldn't do a filling and it turned into a root canal bc I had to wait so long. She said she would have done it in 2nd tri but it's too dangerous in 3rd tri bc the meds can put you into labor or something?? I think I did it the day before my due date and the oral surgeon said there was a risk I would go into labor but he was like you're so close to your due date anyway it doesn't matter.
I'd get it fixed soon because that happened to me while pregnant and then because it was open I needed a root canal after I had the girls. Root canals suckkkkk. That one did, anyway. He said when a tooth breaks to get it fixed asap so you don't need a root canal. It probably broke from an old filling or new cavity underneath the filling causing it to become loose.
