I haven't seen it, but DS watched it Friday at school - they had a special movie day. He came home singing the songs and talking about it, so I guess he is not too scarred.
We just watched it tonight. DS loved it, he said "magic train!!" I don't see how it was weird or scary. The animation is a little funky, the character's eyes are weird looking. But DS didn't notice that at all. The hobo was clearly "an Angel" DS said, matter-of-factly. He really liked it!

My weirdo kids think The Little Mermaid is too scary, and they are fans of Polar Express if that means anything. It's not my favorite, but it's not the worst kid movie I've ever scene.
We tried to watch it the other night and DD cried. She's super tough so I was shocked. Idk if it was the mention of Santa not being real or the guy in the train, but she didn't like it at all.
I like the book, but there wasn't enough for a full feature film so they added all kinds of random cliche chartacters. The sound track is lovely and viusally it's interesting, but does border on creepy.
DS loved the book, but was sort of pissed about the character "Know-it-all" who is clearly written as a person on spectrum and portrayed as unlikable- the lack of empathy, the spewing of factoids and the lack of prosody in his voice- they lost me there.
