So the receptionist at work (who I work pretty closely with) scheduled a meeting a week ago without any info on what it was about. She invited myself and a few department heads. She's been dropping hints here and there that she might be giving in her resignation, so we all thought that was what the meeting was about. So we all go in to the meeting room and she has a sealed envelope (resignation letter), and starts talking about her time here and that she has been looking for a job. Then she stops talking and goes and pulls out a bag of presents for all of us. We all got bottles of alcohol. Cool! But so we are all like.... So are you resigning or looking for another job, or what? And she says 'ya, I'm looking for another job, but I appreciate all you guys do etc.'
It was so weird. The letter was a fake, she wanted is to think she was leaving. And yes, she is a very challenging person to work with, so I appreciate the hooch!
I'm having a reading comprehension issue - she pretended to resign, gave you booze, and also advised that she is looking for another job? Was the job-hunt speech also a joke?

Yes, exactly. She speech started out as a joke, but she told us she was still looking.
milosh So are you guys planning on finding someone new and ditching her before she ditches you, or what?
No, no plans for that yet. And we can't legally let someone go just because they are looking for another job. It will hurt her chances for advancement, I'm sure.
Is she socially awkward? that's just a weird thing to do.
Yes, she is an odd duck for sure. Once her supervisor was pointing out something that she did incorrectly (in a super reasonable way, no yelling etc.) and she just walked away from him while he was still talking. And then gave him the silent treatment for a good couple of days.
