I think he should bring it up with his boss the store manager in a "can you give me some advice about how to handle this situation" type of tone. So not tattling or escalating, but more "I know that DM has come to you with a few issues about me that were untrue. From your perspective Store Manager/Boss, is there anything I could be doing to work more smoothly with DM? Any concerns about me based on things you've heard from DM that you want me to be aware of?"
That way you're acknowledging the weirdness but in a way that shows you want to keep everything moving along professionally.
I like y4m's suggestion. In addition, your DH needs to document everything in writing. And I mean EVERYTHING. In the world of HR, documentation is so so so important.
I agree with y4m's suggestion, and with documenting everything. This is a horrible situation, and he needs to be on record that they're trying to sabotage him.

Yep, he has been documenting everything in writing while at work and then coming home and typing it up so it is saved somewhere more secure. These people are truly acting so childish and immature. It is insane that grown adults are acting this way. It sucks because he really did enjoy his job before all this started happening.
