Overseas (OHA) dual-mil question

I've looked at the regs briefly but was wondering if anyone can tell me with certainty how OHA works with dual-mil?
Do my husband and I get to add together our housing allowances and get one big-ass house?
What would happen if my husband is required to live on base, but I don't want to? Can I take my housing allowance and get a house off base? (The people who have held his position have always been required to have a house on base. We are asking for an exception, but don't know if it will be granted). FWIW, our official assignments are at different bases although the bases are very close to one another.

I THINK you both still get single-rate OHA. Which means, yeah, you could get two residences. I know a dual-mil couple who basically rented a mansion in the UK.

Is the requirement to live on base because of some kind of response time? Like they have to be able to get to their work center in under X amount of time?

I hope we both get Housing allowance, i know here CONUS it depends whether it's privatized or not, they take all (both) our BAH for on-base housing if it is not privatized. I hope if hubby has to live on base in Europe that they don't take mine too.

Stan - I took the "guaranteed promotion" one lol! I'm soooo excited. Not so much about the career aspects, but I think the job is going to be so rewarding. I can't wait. :-)
