They just opened one up not too far from us, so I've been considering a membership.
I know I can buy alcohol without being a member though, so that is the only thing I've purchased so far at a Costco. They do have some good prices on wine and alcohol.
I use their optometrist for annual appointments and buy my contacts at Costco.
Kirkland is their brand and you really can't go wrong because they are name-brand products (eg purple bottle Kirkland shampoo is Pureology; tuna fish is Bumble Bee; vodka is Grey Goose).

I do all of my prescriptions through them.
Another vote for any and all clothing that I have bought there being awesome.
If you ever buy someone a gift card, they don't actually need to be a member to use it.
The self-scan system is pretty efficient, and quicker than standing in their lines. (Though the lines do move, they can just be daunting by sheer number of people.)
(And this post reminds me that I HATE our liquor laws. We can only buy wine and beer there, and they are not usually any cheaper.)

Self-scan?!! Mine doesn't have this but it would be awesome for the times I just want to run in & grab a rotisserie chicken
Mine was late getting a gas station so maybe there's still hope they'll add the self-scan.
Oh and probably the most important tip: DON'T LOSE YOUR RECEIPT IN THE BOTTOM OR YOUR PURSE BETWEEN THE REGISTER AND THE EXIT; KEEP IT IN YOUR HAND AT ALL TIMES!
Also, did you sign up for the Executive membership or just the basic $50 membership? I can speak from experience, they will wear you down every time you check out until you sign up for Executive. I'm really curious to see if the 2% back is going to pay for itself (it excludes gas, alcohol, and online purchases, along with others!).

Basic here was $55 and Executive was $110 with a guarantee of $55 back as a minimum at the end of the year. We definitely opted for Executive.. it just made more sense for us.

It's already been awesome. We've saved so much money on beverages alone. My mom went with me yesterday not planning on shopping and she spent more money than I did.. and I got her 2%!
