Because it was glorious and tomorrow I have to go back to another 12 day stretch so I want to bask in the endorphins while I can.
1. Some days Houston really delivers weather-wise, and this was one of them. It was very similar to last year when I got my big marathon PR. Sunny and cool and dry with a light breeze.
2. Speaking of sun, 12 days without it is too long. I was practically dancing down the road for half of the race because I was so happy to be out there instead of at the hospital.
3. I ran 1:37:40. Holy shit. It probably worked out for the best that I didn't have my garmin because I like to run negative splits and seeing 7:35 for that first 5k probably would have scared me. I was aiming for the 7:30 to 7:35 range. There were moments early on when I wondered if I could hold my pace the whole way, because I knew I was more or less on track, and thought about slowing down. And then I literally thought to myself, no, cinco says you can do this. Because she did, when I posted about going sub-1:40, and she was right. I caught up to the 3:20 marathon pacer about mile 3 and staying with them felt easy until they split off around 8. Legs got a little whiny about mile 11 when I really started to speed up but I felt strong the whole way.
4. Speaking of splits, I'm very happy that even without the garmin I ran perfectly negative ones.
5. McMillan says I can run a 3:25 marathon. Holy shit.
Thanks for letting me AW myself some more. You guys are the best.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
The weather really was perfect. A 3:25 marathon?? If you do one locally that you think you can get it, you should let me know - I'll definitely come cheer you on!

Unfortunately I don't know if there are any local ones that would work out. However, we should do another Houston gtg sometime soon.
