Confession: my name is katyintx and I'm awful at strength training. I know I need to do it, I know it'll help me immensely, but I just don't do it. I get bored going to a gym and lifting, and quite honestly just kind of really dislike it.
That being said, I'm determined to change because I still have a long term goal to be fast. So that brings me to this: has anyone incorporated a barre class for strength training? I've read a bit about it and it seems like it would help. I've also seen a few videos I could do from home, and it seems like something I'd enjoy.
If anyone does this, what are your thoughts? OR, if you do something else for strength training besides going and lifting at a gym, what do you do?

I don't do barre, but I also lack motivation to weight train on my own. My solution is to go to strength based classes at my gym. For an hour, there's an instructor telling me what to do, so I don't have to think about it. And there's peer pressure to keep going even if it's hard. They usually use a mix of fun music, which also helps.
I don't lift weights but I do the You Are Your Own Gym workouts which are all bodyweight exercises and HIIT. It's made a huge difference in my core and my arms. As much as lifting? Probably not, but I really like it and it's working for me so far. As I progress I really want to do the NROLFW but I just haven't made the effort yet.

juliabug No, because I don't belong to a gym. We have a nice neighborhood gym with weights, but that's it. I was actually going to look online tonight to see if they had some body pump-type workouts there. Thanks for the reminder!
I think Barre would be a good option for you--at the very least go try it out! It is better than doing nothing or getting bored, right?
I added crossfit for strength to help improve my speed...but now I love it so much I end up supplementing my CR with running rather than the other way around
