I stayed there on my honeymoon in Oct/Nov 2013, we loved it. The rooms are all suites, grounds were beautiful with easy access to the beach. Service was excellent. If you can I'd recommend one if the oceanfront rooms, it was so relaxing and beautiful to have tea out on the lanai in the mornings. They also have a complimentary shuttle that will take you to the different restaurants and shops in Wailea.
We stayed there in September 2011. We were in a balcony suite which was huge but only part of the balcony had an unobstructed view of the ocean. Our stay included the breakfast buffet which was phenomenal. We skipped lunch because the breakfast buffet was just so good. We also took a canoe tour through the hotel which was great fun albeit early in the morning. We enjoy drinks on the beach at sunset each evening. It was absolutely beautiful. We had a great meal at Stella Blues cafe and went back later to dance to a fantastic band. We also went diving at Molokini crater and loved it. The water was so clear. It has been so cold recently that I could really enjoy a trip back to Hawaii.

Oh yes, the breakfast buffet! SO GOOD. We both gained a few pounds on our honeymoon for sure. We also had it included in our package and never ate lunch either, maybe just a snack in the late afternoon to hold us over till dinner. It was pretty expensive if it wasn't included so probably wouldn't have eaten there every morning otherwise.
I get pretty great car rental discounts through my office, so I checked price of booking Flight+Hotel+Car separately, with each company directly. Ends up being slightly cheaper than the costco deal because of my car rental discount AND the offer the Fairmont has currently, which is 5th night free. www.fairmont.com/kea-lani-maui/special-offers/hotel-offers/promotions/fifth-night-free/
So what is normally a 429/night room becomes 350-ish/night for 5 nights.

If you're willing to look at other properties, we loved the Four Seasons.
If you book the Kea Lani (or the Four Seasons), I'd do so through a Virtuoso-affiliated travel agent. You'll get the same rate as elsewhere plus extra perks like upgrades, free breakfast, and spa or food credit. If you need an agent, we had a great experience with Ourisman Travel when we booked our last Hawaii trip. Particularly when we received a free 12-category upgrade from a mountain view room to a prime ocean view suite on the Big Island.

I checked the four Seasons since we had stayed at one in Mexico before and loved it, but the rate was nearly double that of the Fairmont. So we went ahead and booked the Fairmont. Ended up being about 350 a night!

If the reservation is refundable, you really should reach out to a Virtuoso agent to see if they can rebook it for you. They should be able to get you that same rate, but with the valuable extras as well.
