Encinitas, CA. Located in North County San Diego. Small beach town with lots of great culture and restaurants. You can easily take the train to other cities to explore or drive the PCH to explore other areas. Moonlight beach is gorgeous and a great place for families.
Grand Haven, Michigan. Because it's close, beautiful, quaint, affordable, beaches are clean, water is lovely and salt-free, the pier and boardwalk are picturesque, people are nice, shops are cute, and it's summer in a nutshell to me.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
This thread makes me excited for our trip up the California coast this summer. Notice no one has mentioned any Texas beach towns. There's a reason for that. Our beaches are... not great. I do love Galveston, but that's more for the town, not the beach itself, which is often pretty terrible.

I can enjoy most beaches but I really liked visiting Santa Monica/the SoCal beaches. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and I think they are gorgeous. Great surf, obviously. I just bodysurfed but it was so fun there. Great restaurants and artisans around. Plenty to do but not "too" tacky for my taste.
Bethany Beach/Rehobeth, DE - I also think these are gorgeous and not overly spoiled. I prefer Delaware's beaches over Ocean City's. OC is a little too tacky for my taste.
I also love the beaches up in New England. I've mostly been to NH and Maine. I really like Rye Beach in NH and then going to Portsmouth, NH for dining, strolling around, etc.

To visit: La Jolla. The people were so nice, active, fun and the bars were great!
I lived in Galveston for over 13 years, do I am partial to it. It isn't for everyone, but it was perfect for me. I plan on buying a beach house there when it is time to retire. I love the history and the fact I don't need a car to get around!
