We have a beautiful wooden heron carving. It's head and body are like a polished mahogany-not sure what the wood is for certain- and is tall and slender with rebar legs mounted on wood. Boy kitty Pom just knocked it over and broke off the beak. I am sick. Should we try and repair it ourselves or take it somewhere? It looks like a clean break, but it's of course never going to be the same. Any epoxy or special glue we should try if we do it ourselves. He's giving me sad kitty eyes but I'm still mad. The cats and husband are why we can't have nice things at Chez Pom.
I'm so sorry :-( I agree, take it to a woodworker - it's not a large job, but it's sentimental, so they will know what glues to use to hide the break, and can probably even refinish a small area if necessary.
I say the same thing about my dogs and cats - they are the reason I rarely buy anything of value. Between wagging dog tails and kitty zoomies, nothing is safe!

Pom....DH says if he were doing it he would do it with hot hyde glue. It would be stronger than the original joint and you'd never see it, but you'd have to go to someone who keeps a pot of it. He said look for an antique repair/restoration rather than a woodworking repair person.
Or, you can bring it up here. We're only, oh, an hour and a half from Findlay....
lurknomore Are you in sw Ohio or NW? We have a great group of ladies in sw Ohio. Are you in the g2g list?
Cleveland sadly. I keep thinking maybe a road trip is in order for a southern gtg but I have no clue how is explain that one to the hubby. There are a few of us up here that have threatened to gtg but have yet to follow thru.

That's sad! Let us know if you are ever down this way for something. Maybe an IKEA trip? Although Pittsburgh might be closer.
