What are you reading and how do you like it? Is it for any challenges?

QOTW: do you have any vacation plans for this year? How do you choose reading material for vacations?

Just finished Miramont's Ghost by Elizabeth Hall. It was a kindle first book and it was terrible! The story idea was good, but it was just very poorly executed.

QOTD: we're going to a Phish fest this summer!! I will not be reading - lol.

I just can't anymore with The Fiery Cross. I'm going to start The Miniaturist this weekend.

QOTW: No vacations planned yet. I usually try to clean up my Kindle on vacations and read shorter/lighter things that have been sitting there awhile.

Damn! I'm reading this now. So far it's fine, but I don't know where this story is going. (Nowhere, apparently! Ha!)

We're hoping to cruise with friends this summer. I bring exclusively books with pink covers on cruises.  (hot)

We're hoping to cruise with friends this summer. I bring exclusively books with pink covers on cruises.  (hot)

Well, it kept my interest enough that I finished it, at least.  I didn't come to the conclusion that it was terrible until the end and I reflected a bit.  She spends too much time in France and not enough in Colorado.  The "shocking" climax both came out of left field and was completely predicable.  You should finish it, though, so we can bag on it together - lol.

I'm reading "Strange and Ever After" by Susan Dennard. It is the last of her first trilogy.

I'm listening to "Yes, Please". Whoever said this book was "meant" to be an audiobook was absolutely right--I don't think I would have enjoyed reading it, but I do like listening to it. I have 3 hours left and 9 hour roundtrip drive this weekend. I've downloaded Girl on the Train to listen to once I finish this one.

No vacations yet. I usually just stock up at the library & maybe hoard my magazines for the month.

I just finished A Partial History of Lost Causes, which I liked but didn't love. I'm picking up The Magician's Lie at the library this afternoon and will probably start that next.

We have a beach trip planned (which should really go ahead and be much much sooner than it is -- so looking forward to it!). I like to pack a variety, but nothing too heavy. And I always love mysteries for vacation.

I have a big stack of comics I need to go through. I'm a horrible comic book employee. I'm also reading Mockingjay. 

QOTW: I want to go visit family in Texas, but I don't think I'll be able to this year.

I'm finishing up Without You, There Is No Us. This is the first of my trying to read more non fictions this year.

QOTW: We're going to try and make it to a family reunion this year but no idea where it'll be yet. I actually don't read much on vacations if the kids are with us otherwise I stick with lighter reads.

Oldest friend and I just had our 39th bdays, so we'll plot a trip for 40.
I usually just read what I'm in the middle of, though sometimes I'll plan ahead to have lighter reads

I recently finished Room
I loved it and hated it at the same time (although my hate of it was just annoyance, I actually LOVED the book, just the situation made me feel annoyed and sick)

I am currently reading The Sociopath next door
The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty
and I just recently signed up for a blogger site that sends you books to read in return for your honest review, and I just began reading Near Enemy by Adam Sternbergh

All are pretty good, but I have to be in the "mood" to read them, none are calling me like some of the CANT PUT DOWN books I have read in the past

I should just ditto last Friday: The Fall of Hyperion in paperback, Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers on Kindle, and The Mummy's Case on audiobook. I'm not moving very quickly through anything due to too much work.

QOTW: it depends on the vacation, but lately it's been what I can get from my library on Kindle so I don't have to carry paper books. I mostly read paper when I'm at home so I try to save up my library Kindle options for travel and time the wait lists appropriately. It rarely works as I had planned.

ETA - realized I only answered the second half of QOTW.  Since we just got back from a fun international trip (Guatemala), most of our trips this year will probably be to visit family in the U.S.  Fun, but not particularly noteworthy.

I am reading Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs, it is easy enough, not great, not bad.  A book I picked up from the library.

QOTW: we are going to London in July, with my parents.  I will take my Nook, which has more books than I can ever read!  It will be great on the plane and at night before bed.  I will choose what to start at random based on what is there - mystery, chick lit.

QOTW: We will be doing to a wedding in CO this summer beyond that we don't have anything planned. I am starting a new job tomorrow so I don't know how vacation will play out yet so we are avoiding making any plans for now.

It's Sunday now and I'm still trying to decide what to read. I'm super busy during the week so I'm trying to decide if I should pick something light or if I should go ahead and read one of the many sure-to-be-a-tearjerkers I have piled up.

QOTW: We're hoping to go to Asheville next month for my birthday, and maybe to the beach this summer if we can. I usually pick one serious, emotional read to get absorbed in and then lighter mysteries to read. Usually they are all used so it won't matter as much if they get wet too.

Late to the party (as usual), but I'm reading The Little Girls by Elizabeth Bowen. It's terrible. I'm more than ⅔ of the way through and I still don't understand what's happening or why. It could be because I've been struggling through it since last January, but I really don't think that's the only reason.

It's for the 2015 Ultimate Reading Challenge, task 52, A book you started but never finished. I am determined to finish it, even if it takes me the rest of the year!

QOTW: My travel for the year was literally completed yesterday when I got home after a trip that started New Year's Eve. I flew into San Francisco for New Year's Eve/Day, then to Tampa, followed by a day-trip to Kennedy Space Center, and then a 14-day Southern Caribbean cruise (stops in Key West, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Antigua, Curacao, Aruba, and Grand Cayman), then 4 days in New Orleans for visits with family/friends and some business I needed to complete in person, and finally an overnight in San Francisco before flying back across the Pacific home.
My reading for vacations depends on what type of vacation I'm taking. For cruises, I pack books I intend to leave in the on-board Paperback Book Exchange. I use the space in my suitcases for souvenirs. For land vacations, I pack what I want to read and usually bring the books back home with me. I always pack paperback books, and most often I pack mass-market paperbacks.

I'm currently reading Fall of Giants by Follett. I'm about 20% through, and I'm enjoying it.

I'm going to the Galapagos this summer!  I probably won't have much time for reading aside from the plane trip.

Ummmm where's the end? Did she get bored and quit writing? Did the last chapter blow away in the breeze? That was the least satisfying thing I've read in a while.

I know!  And the whole child molestation thing was just weird.  It's like she picked THE WORST thing a priest could do and threw it in.  Then Adrienne maybe kinda sorta almost half remembers something sketchy Julien did to her as a child...maybe.  What was that about?  There was no hint or clue, like the author had the idea late and was too lazy to go back and add foreshadowing.  Terrible book!
