my best friend did it as her first full and LOVED it.
Well that might just be enough to sway me. A friend of mine from my running group has been trying to convince me to do a full with her in 2016 (she's planning to be one and done, which I will likely also be). We can't do our local because we're slow and they just announced that they've cut the full finish time by half an hour so no matter what I'll have to travel, and she and two other friends from my running group have decided that RnR NO is it. The course time limit is a full hour over the local and I'll have plenty of time to get ready and budget for travel, there's no fee to drop distance, plus I'm already signed up for my training group for the full year. If I sign up by 2/1 it's only $50 early bird so I should decide quickly. OMG I think I'm going to do it...

Do it! Have friends running it tomorrow, and the later Feb. date means good weather. I've heard the back half of the full is a little boring, but the front half is a good, flat course with lots of crowd support. I ran the relay2 years ago, and DH ran the half last year. I'm trying to talk him into doing the half, especially at that cheap rate.

both times he's done it, the weather has been great, so I think he's lucked out with that. He said the stretch along Ponch is pretty exposed, so bring/wear sunscreen. He's a sub 4 marathoner and got burned really bad so if it's sunny, be prepared for that. The hills (steep bridges) around miles 19-21 (he can't remember exactly, it's when you cross the canals) are short and steep so just be prepared. He said it was just a surprise after being so flat.
From a spectator's point of view (and his), don't get sucked into the hoopla surrounding the finish of the half marathon. The course doesn't split until almost mile 13, so it's easy to get started going faster but it's people around you doing the half getting their kick started.
He said he was also surprised by how long St Charles felt.
Other than that, our whole family has really enjoyed that race and race experience.

If either of you want/need a place to stay, there's a house we get from VRBO every time we go to NOLA and absolutely love it. I'm happy to share since we won't need it, haha!

bluedaisyus and mrsjthompson - the property actually has two places. One is a small carriage house that's a futon + a queen size bed. The big house is one proper bedroom with a double, a full sized pullout sofa in the living room and then these two little side rooms (with their own bathroom) that each have a twin bed. So I think it says it can sleep six adults. The house has a full sized kitchen and the carriage house has like a studio kitchen.
It's a block away from Tulane and like four blocks away from St Charles.
