I'm redesigning my website (small business). I have a mediocre handle on SEO and I know I need to improve it with the new site. A few questions:
1) I am using SquareSpace for the site. Will using a cover page hurt my SEO in any way? (Sorry if this is a dumb question). I am thinking the cover page will have a single CTA (a button that says "enter" or "view portfolio" which then takes you into the site. Is this an advantage/disadvantage? Neither?
You will probably want to have both spellings. Is there a reason you'd like a cover page? Making your customers click before they see anything is another way for them to "drop off," the fewer steps for them to take action the better.
Do you have a domain set up?
Feel free to pm me if you have more questions, I can see if I can help.
Don't use a landing page for your first page. It's very bad for SEO. The content in the meta descriptions that will rank you for SEO will not be there on a landing page.
Like pink said, it's also a deterrent for customers - you're making them do extra work. If you ask them to do extra work, they will find someone else who doesn't. Spell out the "and". If you want to PM me, I work for a company that helps with small business marketing and have a ton of SEO resources that I can point you to that are literally written for people like they're 5 with easy steps to improve your SEO.
