We were talking about this yesterday. Here they start full time at 4 (9:15-3:15 I believe it is), I would like to do something but I have no clue what that is. Putting them in before/after care likely isn't worth it so I would ideally find something I can do on my own time (that isn't direct sales because I would suck at that).
I would like to volunteer at their school some but basically I have no clue!
I am not sure honestly whether I will stay home until Kinder or get sick of it. Ideally I would like to be part time since full time works require a nanny and I am not sure how I feel about that.

I want to go back to work pretty badly. I just, I like that adult time. I don't care what I do, particularly, but I hope to find a job that starts earlier in the morning, so I can be off work by the time Zoe's done with school.
I don't know yet. I have been a SAHM for 8 years and I am feeling really bored lately. But I don't really want to get a job either. I would probably need to go back to school if I wanted a decent job right now, so I may do that.

I definitely want to go back to work once our last child is in school. I'm not sure what I want to do and I'm not sure how to figure it out. I never thought I would leave medicine so I haven't explored other areas of interest. I imagine I will go back to school but I need to be careful since I already have a lot of loans from medical school.

I don't plan to go back full time unless our circumstances change. I miss teaching dearly, but not enough to put in those hours again. I have thought about getting my masters in reading education so I can work in a more specialized capacity, but that's not in the near future.
I know I can stay busy through volunteering with school, church, and community activities and running the household, so I'm not too worried about that.
It depends on what type of schooling we pursue for the kids, too.
I feel like life is just going to get more busy when they are in school too, more food prep, more activities, more community involvement, and hopefully more time to take care of myself as well.
Ugh I hate this question, but it's a good one. I'm going to begin YTT classes this spring, but it will take me at least a year until I complete the program and become certified. I have also been toying with the idea of getting my real estate license, but am not sold on it yet. My biggest thing is being available for DD. And what I went to school for and am qualified to do (art history & fashion) there is no industry for where we now live. So continuing my education in that area is out. If I get remarried, it will be to someone who wants children, so if and when I have more kids I'd stay home with them the same way I have with DD (minus the working at night).
So there's lots of balls in the air for me, but I'll figure it out:)
I don't think I'm ever going back to work full time. Dh's schedule is either super busy and oot or he's home at 6pm every night. I don't want to handle all child related activities by myself and work full time teaching. While we can afford it, I'm staying home.
I want to go back to work but I can't do what I was doing before (HS band director)-- I just can't handle the massive amounts of unpaid overtime in the form of football games, marching comps and rehearsals, extra curricular music ensembles, school musicals blah, blah, blah. I love it but I want to be a mom first.
Lol I don't know. It will depend on what H is doing and where we're living, if I can still get freelance. Ideally we'll be in a good place and I can get quilting or weaving.

I'm not really sure. I don't see myself going back into nursing and actually just retired my license. As DH gets higher in his career, we are going to be moving every 2ish years instead of the current 4. I'll probably put more time into the blog and maybe look at my other options in culinary.
I don't want to, but I probably will. I don't have huge aspirations or anything. I'd love to be a secretary at the school or something. . It'll be quite a few years though.

I'm not a total SAHM, but I work part time evenings. I'm torn between going back to school or going back full time days. I still have 4 1/2 years to decide!
I work part time right now (teaching, and casual with the Symphony) but when DS2 starts school I want to perform more. If a permanent violin position opens in the Orchestra from this point on, I will audition.
That said, no one is retiring anytime soon, though there are a few people in their 60s who probably will in the next few years. Then I am all over it! I NEED to work. I love teaching kids, but I can't do it full-time. I need the adult interaction and an identity other than wife/mother.

Riley2010, Just curious, why don't you want to go back into nursing? If I don't go back into teaching, I was thinking about nursing school.
I was a teacher. I'm not sure if I'll go back into teaching when my youngest goes into K. It would be ideal bc then I'd be working the same hours they are at school (hopefully in the same school).
In reality, I'm not really sure what I want to be when I grow up. I'd really like to be an eternal student, but I can't really afford that. Haha

I was also a nurse and I don't see myself going back because it's so physically exhausting.

What type of setting did you work in? Hospital? Dr office? IF I went for nursing, I think I'd want to work in a pediatric office m-f. I probably should combine careers and get the best of both worlds...school nurse

That's not an easy job to get as a new nurse! You'd probably have to pay your dues in a hospital setting first, although I'm sure it's different everywhere.
I was most recently working in a derm/plastic surgery office and it was more of a cushy nursing job, but I was still on my feet and working insane hours.

This is totally unrelated/stupid question of me. But in nursing school did you have to work or practice on any cadavers or anything? My mom went to nursing school about 40 years ago now and she had a cat that they practiced on. It's always been something I've wondered. I wanted to go into nursing but aside from my mom talking me out of it, I was afraid I would have to practice on dead things.
I plan on being a lady of leisure. Since we homeschool, my youngest won't be "school age" until college. And if I make it 16-18 more years of homeschooling three girls, I figure I deserve to relax for a while.

Hmm no, we didn't do any cadaver lab or anything. My school had these really fancy dummies that would have real medical problems and you'd have to figure it out. For injections and blood draw etc, we practiced on each other.

My nephew recently completed his rn program. They had cadavers in his a&p class.
I work part time right now (when not on ML) and will have to go back full time when R is two. I am dreading it. The hours and the stress and the absolute mental exhaustion ugh. I am thinking I will try and get certified in wound care before then so maybe I can get better hours and not have to work every other weekend and most holidays and rotate my shifts, I have no idea how that would work with two kids and my H traveling. I want to cry just thinking about it. I really wish I enjoyed my job.

What do you do? It sounds like a nurse?
My mom worked as a nurse for over 20 years and working holidays took a toll. She finally moved on to working at an insurance company. I am not sure exactly what she did but I know her career as a nurse was important in getting that job. I think she went PT with that too before getting sick. Do you have any options like that?
Sorry, I could be totally off base on what you do or if this is even an option but know she was happy to make the switch!
