Well, DS took his first steps at 10.5 months old, but he is still clumsy less than 3 months later. He can maybe walk for 5 minutes in a store with me holding his hand, but I try and contain him to the shopping cart.

DD2 started walking at 10.5 months and I would say by 12.5 months she was pretty steady on most surfaces. Some of my friends' kids have been walking for 4+ months and are still unsteady a lot of the time.
She's 15 months now. She is completely steady now and never trips (can walk for long distances), but I don't really put her down though at stores or stuff because I just spend the entire time chasing her. That won't end for a long time!
B's right there with her. He didn't walk until 13 mos, but still - he's been at it for 4 months, and is still a bit iffy. This weekend he walked into a wall. He trips over his own toes a lot, I blame the shoes. He can't be relied on to realize there are things in his path. They'll get there!
He's stable while he's up, and very fast, I just think they don't pay close attention at that age. He gets too much momentum and trips over his feet or other things. At least he's learned to catch himself...I hated the early face plants!

B has been walking well for a while now, but she gets SO clumsy when tired or distracted. Especially when she's tired, she just falls over for no reason.
Ds1 took his first steps at 10.5 months, was a fairly reliable walker by 15 months, and I stopped worrying about him tripping all the time by 16 months. He never crawled so he got lots of practice walking since it was his only way of moving.

I stayed up way too late watching videos of DS Friday night. He started walking in June, and there were a few videos in Sept & Oct where he was running, tripping, and falling all over the place, so I vote normal.

FOREVER! He is good now, but I attribute that to tumbling... he has gotten so much more graceful! He still has bruises all over his legs and his forehead because he dosen't watch where he is walking and runs into things (i.e. looking at the dog... whoops wall...etc).

Dd1 began walking at 11 months, and walking pretty well at 14 months. Dd2 started walking at 10.5 months, and was also around 13.5 months when she was walking pretty well. Ds2 was my early walker at 9.5 months, and by 13 months he was pretty good at walking.
