I think it's perfectly normal to have strong feelings for good memories that involve someone rather than being about that someone. I'm sorry for your loss.
I am sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience when I lost my grandmother. I never had a relationship with her, we visited only once a year. I feel I knew more 'of her', than actually knowing her. I was completely caught off guard by how hard her death hit me. ((hugs))
I'm sorry for your loss I think a lot of people probably had relationships like that with grandparents, especially when a lot of people don't live near their grandparents. My relationships with my grandparents were/are a lot like yours.
