My LO is still pretty young, but yeah, we only turn on the TV when she's napping or in bed for the night. Yet she still cranes her neck to see a TV in public, or a phone, or a digital picture frame. And, actually, she tries to grab the Bluetooth speakers, too.
Then again, she was sticking her tongue out to taste the wind the other day, too, so I guess she's just exploring in general, lol.
Kudos to you all who abide by no TV until 2. I couldn't/can't do it.
Lol - it's still early. Believe me, I wasn't being smug!
For those that SAH in full or in part and your kids don't watch TV until they're 2, what the hell do you do all day? Do you not watch tv at all with your kids around? I'd be sofa king bored without the TV on the 2 days/week I SAH. I mean when else am I supposed to catch up on the DVRed shows DH doesn't like?
I SAH full time. I will watch the morning news when I nurse the baby. TV is turned off when my 2 year old wakes. He watches one show (his choice of Thomas, Sesame Street, George) after nap. We started his around 18 months in the dead of winter. 13 hours or more of solo parenting is tough.
I watch all my shows later. Special situations allowed .., yesterday we had the weather channel on in the afternoon, which doesn't interest him.
Someone on my local board is wondering whether 55 degrees is too cold to take her baby out. She put him in a snowsuit with a blanket but still didn't know if it was okay.
Seriously? A snowsuit? I was wearing shorts when it was 55 degrees out the other day. I've come to the conclusion that people on the West coast are a bunch of babies when it comes to weather.
I'm sure I'm going to get flamed by her for taking my babies out in below zero weather. THE HORROR.
I am from PA and lived in West LA for awhile. I was frequently in shorts and flip flops when everyone was sporting uggs and had layers on.
I have this same problem with Barnes & Noble and Ikea. What's up with that?
YES! B&N does it to me every single time. WTF is up with that??
Lolol this is a legitimate phenomenon! My sister and I joke about it all the time! It happens whenever you go somewhere particularly exciting that has a lot of things in it you like or want. Bookstores, the container store, your sewing room haha. That's great.
My 18 month old is addicted to TV. He doesn't get to watch much a day. Probably under an hour at most. We realized last week that it was a problem when he would take the remote, point it at the TV and shout, "ON!" Uhhh, no way kid.
So now we are detoxing him from TV. He hasn't watched any since last Friday. At least once per day he will look around for the remote (which we have to hide), then will start bawling his eyes out when he can't find it. He's legit throwing temper tantrums over the TV. It's really bad and I feel like a pretty terrible mom.
Why is there something wrong with him knowing how the remote works? I am not trying to be purposefully obtuse, I am just wondering. And one hour a day of TV doesn't really seem worth going through all of that.
It's not a problem that he knows how it works, it's the fact that he's freaking out to have the TV actually ON. He doesn't care about the remote, he cares about watching the shows. I haven't ever been of the mindset that he will "absolutely not watch TV until 2", but I have realized it is a problem when he wants it on, rather than playing.
I had a few moments of insecurity when I started a convertible car seat thread a few days ago that got minimal (but mostly helpful!) traffic, but then I've seen like three or four other threads asking essentially the same questions with tons more responses, so I was all, "No one likes meeeee!"
Then I remembered it's a message board, so I had a beer and said fuck it. I got the info I needed. Lol.
I feel like this on the regular and I think I post pretty frequently. I started a thread yesterday that NO ONE commented on so then I deleted it. I guess that's flameful.
