I'm hoping for you!! I had a similar situation with a dog I hit with my car in November ans the owners on the microchip declined to take him back. It was dramatic a few days later when they changed their mind and went psycho on me but in the end we kept him and it's worked out. I hope you have the same outcome!

You did the right thing. ((hugs)) Hopefully they either won't call or will be the nicest people who have been missing the kitty for a while and going crazy.

Fingers and toes crossed. I think two days is fair, if you hear anything by Wednesday you'd still have time to get her meds before the weekend. If there's an owner dearly missing their cat they screw around.
How long would be reasonable for me to wait for this person to call me back? She does have an ear infection that needs to be treated this week. I cant afford to do it for a cat i dont own. :/ i tried looking up the laws and theyre not clear with animals. it's more personal property like a wallet or something.
With the dog I hit the vet actually had a compassion fund that they used to treat him with since he had extensive injuries from an animal attack prior to me finding him. Maybe call around?

I'm so sorry. However, it was the right thing to do to call. Maybe they love her dearly and she's been missing for a while.
I have a cat that I thought was a stray because she was ALWAYS at my house, and hungry. It turned out she had owners around the corner, but their other cat hated her and kept driving her out of the house. They agreed that I could keep her.

So maybe it will still work out?
This, I'd be heartbroken if my cat was missing. You did the right thing.
SMACE I hope for your sake you all get to keep the cat.
you did the right thing calling. But there are so many times that an owners will give up their pet if they know that it's going to a good home. I saw this working for a veterinarian. How many times you'd comment on how sweet a dog or cat was and they'd say, "You want him?" Really awkward. But anyway, it's possible if you tell them you love the kitty so much they'll let you keep him.
OMG at that kitty face. I can see why this is so tough. I'd hide the kitty forever. "No, previous owners, I don't have the kitty anymore. Kitty got out and I don't know where he went."
My dog's name was Moose when we adopted him...Um no! He didn't seem to care that we changed his name to something more fitting. She doesn't look like Athena. She is gorgeous!
