"Valentine’s Day and Easter — two very chocolate-centric holidays — are just around the corner, but American consumers craving British confections might be out of luck. That’s because Let’s Buy British Imports, or L.B.B., agreed last week as a result of a settlement with Hershey’s to stop importing all Cadbury’s chocolate coming in from across the pond.
Additionally, according to the New York Times, KitKat bars, the ones made in the U.K., will no longer be sold in the United States; along with Toffee Crisps, which feature packaging that is too similar to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups; Yorkie bars, which are too close to the York peppermint patty and Maltesers, chocolate-covered malt balls that are similar to the Hershey’s variety.
Fans of British chocolate talk of the great taste difference. That’s because, according to the Times, British chocolate is higher in fat. The first ingredient of British Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, a plain milk chocolate bar, is milk. In the American-made version of a Cadbury’s bar, the first ingredient is sugar.
Eventually, Hershey’s hopes to stop the sale of all Cadbury’s chocolate in the United States, reports the Times."
All this has achieved is to further solidify my hate of Hershey's
Me too. I'm always so confused by all of the Reese's love. I get it, chocolate and peanut butter are amazing together. But Hershey's chocolate is terrible!
Why would they want to eventually stop making them? Childhoods will be ruined!
I know!
At first I thought maybe they'd buy some recipes and make some kind of Hershey's Cadbury that would maybe suck less than their regular chocolate. Then I got to the end and the rage set in.
Wait okay, I do eat Cadbury eggs. duh. Those are imported?
The Cadbury eggs that you buy in the grocery/drug store/whatever in the US are not imported. Cadbury eggs have been made and distributed in the US by Hershey since the late 1980s. Hershey has also made a bunch of the other Cadbury products in the us that will remain in the US.

For good? I know they do make some Cadbury here in the US, but the last sentence makes it sound like there there will eventually be no Cadbury anything sold here. I hope I'm wrong.

There will be no "Cadbury" that is MANUFACTURED by Cadbury. Almost all US Cadbury is currently produced by Hershey. They bought the rights to the name and the american formulas years ago.
If you bought a cadbury product at an import store you may have had a true Cadbury egg, however most US citizens have never had one.

I should really be ashamed of the actual sigh of relief I let out over this.
But I'm not, because Cadbury Mini-Eggs make life worth living.
