{They are treating her for Guillain Barre syndrome.}
That is a freakishly weird virus to get. I hope it runs it's course quickly and she gets back to her old self fast. It sounds like she is doing extraordinarily well for that nasty virus.
My uncle has had Guillain Barre twice (I posted about him getting it while in France a few months back. He was life flighted back to the US after a month) He just got moved to a rehab after being in ICU for 3 months (he got stuck on the vent for a long time.).
Is is she able to breathe ok? Eat? Move? Do there expect that she will regain full muscle control?
Its so rare that there are not a lot of cases, and no case is the same, but she is really lucky to be able to laugh and move and it sounds like the treatment is working so quickly. My Uncle could not even talk either time for long periods. The first time, he was in ICU for a couple of weeks. He still has a feeding tube in rehab, but he no longer has a trach.
The good news is the odds of getting in twice like my uncle is something greater than 1 in a million.
I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle! I have a close friend who had it as an adult 2 years ago and it was 6 months until she was normal again. The staff here has told me that it's much harder on adults than children. They are going to give her another dose tonight and we might be able to go home on Thursday ish. They said it might be 2 weeks until she's fully walking again.
That's amazing! So glad it didn't hit her so hard!
I'm doing ok. I'm THRILLED that we have answers and a plan that seems to be working. I'm so fucking happy that it's not cancer or anything permanent or life threatening. I'm so relieved. I'm really calm and just focusing on keeping Jules comfortable and happy.
But I'm exhausted, my whole body is sore from sleeping in these shitty beds. I want a real hot shower, wash my hair, put some makeup on and drink a cocktail and go for a walk around my neighborhood and just feel normal. Ya know? DH is at work even though his boss told him to stay with us. So I'm a little irritated about that, even though I understand why he's doing it, because he feels like he needs to. My friends have been bringing me food and visiting which has been so nice.
I really miss my mom and I'm angry and sad that she didn't fly out when Jules first got sick. I thought she would. So that's been hard for me.
thejen626 Im so happy J is getting better. I'm off tomorrow if you'd like some company or need anything but I will have L with me so don't know if they are allowing kids to visit (we currently have flu visitation restrictions in place at my hospital)
and I'm sorry about your mom. Let me know if I can do anything.

Thanks friend!! I think I'm ok. Enjoy your day off!
I'm late coming in here, but I'm really glad she is getting better! I'm sorry that your mom didn't come in town to help out. Can you call her and tell her that you really need her to be there for you?

Thanks.
I did call her all day long after we got admitted...finally reached her late in the evening and cried my eyes out to her. She was like "I know, I'm sorry" but I got the impression that she didn't really care. It's been a longstanding issue with her the last several years. I'm not surprised, just disappointed.
In other news, we might be going home today! Fingers crossed.

Well that sucks. I know how mom issues are ( I have had my fair share with mine!), but on the bright side, i saw that you are home today! Glad you are back home and that your LO is feeling better. You must be so exhausted and relieved. I hope you all can get some rest!
