DS has an ear infection. I was really surprised as neither DH nor I ever had one. The good news is he can go to daycare tomorrow and I dont have to miss work.
@lcap, 20k in taxes?!? Holy sh!t! That's definitely not something I could afford, not sue I would even consider it if I could.
I mean, not given our current situation. I guess it would depend on the school district, change in commute times, what I liked about the house/location itself (walkability, more green space, whatever), etc.
Put it another way ... what does all this extra property tax money pay for? Would you feel like you were getting value out of it?
Am I remembering correctly that you guys have a paid off house? Because our budget would struggle with a higher mortgage pmt plus double taxes, but if we didn't have a mortgage payment...
Yeah it's not so much the house price, which is "only" 500k (lol - I know how that sounds but I also know that many people on here live in HCOL areas where sfh *start* at that) but the taxes. He has a thing about not wanting to pay that much in property tax. Like it's a principle with him, lol. I'm wondering if this is weird or not.
I can see this. You can pay off a mortgage, but you are stuck paying property taxes forever.
I am LOLing at DH so hard right now. He started this ridiculous bedtime routine of like 6+ books, which I faithfully kept up while he was gone, to my chagrin. He walked in tonight and was like, this is ridiculous and hid a ton of books, planning to read her 4 (they're all short board books). Of course as soon as he finished reading the first book, dd started asking for one he hid and he pulled them out like the sucker he is

I'm having a huge war with the car dealership about handing back my lease and picking up my new car. The gm is such an arrogant a hole. My whole day today has been consumed by it. I can't wait to blast him/the dealership all over social media and online reviews the second I get my new car.
A couple came back for a second showing of our house. Our agent talked to theirs and their agent said that the showing went well and she would be in touch. What does that mean??? Is an offer coming?
I bought some pants from @this a while back that I knew were too small but I hoped to fit in soon. They fit! And my butt looks great

Positive random to make up for my rant. I got an letter from my boss today that I'm getting a pretty big bonus (by my, not mm's standards). pretty nice to still get it even though I've been off since last Feb.i wasn't expecting it at all.
Woah, that's a big jump in taxes @lcap. Unless it would add much better schools, increased property value down the line or something else of tangible value, I'd pass and keep my eyes peeled for something larger in your current tax area since that's a sticking point for your DH. But I'd probably research and talk this one up a bit so when that one in your area does arise, you have a good comp to throw at him.
I hope the baby STTN tonight. He's been up a few times a night for what three nights now and I'm not in proper form for that level of shenanigans. I was pretty useless today and I hate that.
@lcap -- if you can comfortably afford the PITI and love the house and the location, I don't see why the amount of taxes should keep you from buying it. Although $20k in taxes on a $500k house does sound high. We paid $13k in taxes on our last house, and I thought that was bad. We "only" pay ~$7k on a $550k house now.
In the fall our HOA sent us a letter saying our roof was dirty. H got on the roof, cleaned it, and realized that it's the roof pattern and it was in fact not dirty at all. He sent our HOA pictures from on the roof, emailed and called. They never responded. We assumed all was good. All of a sudden today we get a notice saying if we don't clean our roof we'll be charged $100 a day! H is pissed. He doesn't get mad often, and he just wrote them a strongly worded letter and left a pretty good voicemail. He pretty much told them if they have such a problem, they can replace our roof. Go H!
Oh since it's still kind of the afternoon, I figure this is a good place to AW my sister.
She was offered a three-year research position in her field at the University of Michigan. It's not tenure-track, which is always the dream, but it's good enough that she's going to accept it rather than hold out hope for a tenure-track position somewhere that has more teaching and at a worse school.

@icap knowing where you live and if your changing towns, I have a few good guesses what towns you might be considering based on geography. I would not let those property taxes stop me from having the home in the area I want.
Taxes in that area are high. They just are; not NNJ high, but high for the COL. I get the property tax hate, but sometime's it's part of life. If I could afford to be in the home I want in the location I want and could comfortably afford it, I would do it. Life is too short not to do it, in my opinion.
lulu 21 I'm sorry! Hoa can suck sometimes! I could send a certified letter to them explaining everything again, how you wrote on x date and including pictures.
@lcap we went from paying $3k in property taxes to $12k so yes? It's a MM wash since moving to the burbs would have gotten us better schools but required a second car plus commuting plus not as many square feet.
I hope you can figure out the best answer for your family.
Just got off the phone with my daycare provider. She had to cancel daycare today because her son's wife was having a baby on Sunday night and things went south. Thankfully, her DIL and new grandson are both healthy but not before a very scary ambulance ride and separation. The DIL still hasn't seen or held her own son because she's stuck at a different hospital after an emergency C. My heart is breaking just thinking about not seeing my baby for that long.

I'm solo parenting tonight, so H wasn't around to help with getting DD changed before bed like he usually does. It went badly. So very badly.
DD pooped right before I changed her. As soon as I pulled her diaper off, she shoved her hands straight in the poop. Great. I clean her hands off as well as I can, then start on her butt. She then yanked the poo-covered wipe out of my hands with strength and speed I didn't even know she had, shoved it right in her mouth, and started sucking on it. I mean, I heard the sucking noise and everything. It was so poo covered. And she was sucking on it. OMG. When I was nursing her afterwards, all I could think was 1) maybe the magical antibacterial properties of breastmilk will kill any fecal matter in her mouth, and 2) HER POO MOUTH IS ON MY NIPPLE!
I need alcohol - both for me to drink and to douse my boobs with in an attempt to sterilize them.
Just cooked my first Blue Apron meal. I know I'm the world's laziest cook, but if I'm playing to have meals delivered to me, I don't want to have to do so much prep work. Who wants to zest lemons? And pick thyme leaves?
Anyone care to voice an opinion on wallpaper for my laundry room? We are replacing the old blue and brown floral you can kind of see on the wall, and I am liking the coral and white link and the gray/white/orange ikat you see in the foreground. Preferences? Are both terrible?

@this has inspired me to create a gallery wall EXCEPT I want one art vs. family pictures. Would it be weird to have mainly art but some family pictures as well? Also, is there a good side for templates I am not good at this stuff lol.
If I do art I don't have to use mattes in the frames right? Most photos I see online are for family pictures and all have a photo matte too, but that seems unnecessary for artwork.
@lcap -- The floor is slate tile, FWIW. We use it as a mud room for the kids and dog, so I kind of don't want to deal with keeping a rug clean in there. Does that influence your opinion? Here is a pic of the (currently messy) room. We are replacing the washer and dryer with a white set (washer just died, so I figured I might as well re-wallpaper while they are pulled out, which is what prompted this whole thing).

Did you end up deciding to stay? I remember they let you extend your ML but wasn't there still some debate about what your next steps were/are?
H just asked if I cared if he went to a friend's house for a beer tonight. I told him that I didn't care, but that tonight was probably his last chance to have sex with me for a week (I assume, based on this back pain). He left anyway. At least he can't tell me I never initiate! lol

At least the gnocchi was delicious.
I see this service advertised on blogs all the time and have thought the same thing, lol. Are the recipes easy at least?
I thought that there was way too much prep work, and too many steps and dirty dishes involved. I am a really basic cook though. Either H cooks, or we order takeout, lol.
I got this box for free. I'm not sure I'd order again. I'm also annoyed we couldn't pick what meals we get. The other two meals we have to cook are filled with ingredients my (admittedly picky) H won't eat, so I'm not even sure I want to go through the effort of cooking them.
I had been doing so good with healthy eating the past couple weeks. This weekend had a lot of temptation and now I'm off the wagon. I hope I can back in the swing quickly.
