I'd try to get industrial dehumidifiers in ASAP. If there's any drywall damage, unfortunately, that's probably going to have to go. You might be able to salvage a lot of wood once everything dries out, though - fingers crossed!
My only experience with insurance was when my house was rendered uninhabitable... for about 5 months. I assume you can at least sort of use the kitchen?
The water damage, or the being emo at dinner time?
The water damage she felt very very badly about. She tried her best to dry it out, folded our laundry, scrubbed the stovetop range, did as much tidying around the house as she could, etc.
The being emo? Not sure yet. If I had to guess, she probably feels bad about storming off but probably also thinks staying would have been even more awkward. Which I get, but I wish she had at least tried.
I meant the water--I assumed the emo was about her just not dealing with the day very well.
I not that I would want the woman to feel emotionally tortured, but I'm glad she at least feels bad about her carelessness.
I an guessing she is projecting her humiliation on to the "tone" of the conversation. Do you think this could be the result of a dementia type episode?
I think she's projecting too. Without going into to details, she's had lots of emotional/psychological issues in the past, so I'm just more inclined to chalk it up to overall poor mental health. Plus we haven't seen any other dementia signs (well she forgets specific words A LOT so I sometimes wonder about Parkinson's), but it's something to keep an eye on.
The damage this morning looks much worse, I get to call the insurer this morning.
