Pedis office doesn't open for another hour. DD1 woke up unable to open one of her eyes until I wiped it with a wet cloth. She says it hurts and she can't open it much. DH is no help, he thinks it just looks a little closed but I think it looks a bit goopy and slightly red in addition to more closed than the other eye.
She is soooooo bummed at the thought of missing school. But she has to right?
Thanks. Ugh. Now that I can get a better look it's not really pink, but goopy and swollen. Plus she slept in more than normal and appears to have a cold too. She hates missing school and I was going to have her stay for lunch bunch an extra couple hours today too so I could pack! Not cool.
My nephew just went to the drs for what they thought was pink eye and ended up being a symptom of his ear infection. I had never known that. We were all surprised. Hope whatever it is clears up soon
Dd has had pink eye and then one time she had a sinus infection that was coming out of her eye because everything was so congested. I hope she gets some relief soon and that if it is pink eye, the rest of your family doesn't get it.

This was my thought. I used to get it every time I had a sinus infection. It looked very similar when I woke up but I used regular visine and it would go away.
I'd still go to the pedi and keep her home today, just to be safe.

Not necessarily. Dd had a bad sinus infection once and woke up like that. If there's other signs of illness I vote infection. If not probably pinkeye. There's three forms of pink eye and only one is contagious. Your pedi should have more insight. Ds recently had the non contagious one and it was nbd. He was at school.
Hmm. Well doc is supposed to call me back and her eye looks much better though she has a bit of a cold. Luckily school was on a one hour delay today. I'm inclined to take her to school because she says it doesn't hurt anymore and she's more chipper. Hate these decisions.
Yep sounds like it. I wouldn't worry about bleaching everything it's only pink eye. While contagious it's not that big of a deal.
I would feel this way if there wasn't another kid in the house. I've had pink eye and it wasn't a big deal. Getting those stupid drops in a kid with pink eye was torture. It was like a 15 minute project 3 times a dat for a week with kicking screaming and lots of ice because it was uncomfortable.
Could be conjunctivitis - it's not uncommon to get that in connection with a cold, from rubbing your eys with an infected hand/finger. I actually had that a few times that I can remember when I was younger. If that's the case, it should go away in a day or so.

Have you ever had pinkeye? It's highly contagious and miserable.
Yes and easily treatable and gone in like 12 hours with drops. You make it sound like some super deadly disease. It's pink eye. A few drops and you are good to go.
The thing is all kinds of what we call pink eye aren't highly contagious. I believe only the bacterial is. But they don't swab everything so they give antibiotic eye drops for all of it. My kids have had a few days of goopy pink eye looking eyes after or with a cold that cleared on their own because they were viral. Ds had it 2 weeks ago. When it hadn't cleared in 4 days I called. Doctor gave us the drops and said whether it's bacterial or viral, it will be gone in 7-10 days. Anyway, no one else got it, even me who was constantly wiping his eyes. I didn't bleach anything or do any special cleaning.

Wash the pillowcase/bedding just to be on the safe side. My kids were younger when pink eye ran through here.
Yeah pink eye sucks and I would go crazy bleaching but that's because I have an issue with eye drops. I had eye surgery as a child so I think I was traumatized from all the eye exams and drops. I'm like Rachel from Friends lol.
Plus it totally sucks to try to get those drops in a squirming kid! I hate pink eye.
My kids get really goopy before their eyes get really red. I'm talking about big, long strings of white/clear goop. I always figured goop from a sinus infection would be pretty colors.
Aw poor kid! When DS was smaller I once woke up like your dd and assumed pink eye and got myself to the dr asap. Turned out it was bacterial and caused by a lingering cold I had-the dr said sometimes an infection can creep up into the sinuses and actually work its way into the tear ducts. Hope her eye feels better soon!
Y'all I totally sent her to school. Honestly she seemed fine once she finished breakfast. And the doc said it could have just been a clogged tear duct or something and it was ok to send her. Thanks for all the responses!
Also--- I never bleach things when we get sick, even when we all had HFM. Is it necessary if we're not talking plague?

Nah you're good. I wouldn't bleach anything-glad she seemed better

Um no. We don't even own bleach. It's a ridiculous outdated practice. Honestly the only people I know who Lysol the crap out of their house if their kids are sick also have the sickest kids.

And sort of eye infection looking thing, pink-eye or not, I'd keep LO home from school and make a trip to the pedi. And as someone else suggested, bleach everything. Wipe down light switches, handles to doors and cabinets, refrigerator door, toilet bowl lever, faucets.
And wash all linens and don't share pillows/towels.

Sanitation is an outdated practice?
With bleach? Yes I know no one who uses bleach to wipe down everything after pink eye. Ignoring the fact that I prefer my kids not ingest bleach there are a zillion more natural and healthy ways to clean. Not to mention it just isn't necessary, it's super overkill.

Plusalso you should probably worry more about your reading comprehension and less about the bleach.

Nah, it's not. I think it's good to sanitize while cleaning house in general but I prefer vinegar solution over bleach. My whole thing is to clean as I go and keep my house generally wiped down anyways as a preemptive measure. But do I blast everything with bleach after sickness? Nah. Bleach is harsh and has strong fumes, plus, by the time people are sick, it's too late

It's not overkill. I agree, that some germs can be killed with less-harsh methods. However, when you have a super contagious illness in the house (be it pinkeye, noro virus, or the flu), one of the main ways to stop transmission is a weak bleach solution (1T to 1qt of water is all it takes). It's cheap, readily available, and extremely effective. I am not a germaphobe at all, but if I can stop the transmission of germs in my house with a spritz of bleach water, then I'm going to do that.

Weird my kids have had pink eye a couple of times as confirmed by the doctor and even with my lax no bleaching ways it has never ever been passed through the family. Good hygiene and basic cleaning seems to work just fine as it has fir the flu and stomach viruses for us. So while you don't think it is overkill with three kids it had never made an appearance in our house and shockingly other than ear infections my kids are generally extremely healthy. Like I said I prefer my nine month old not ingest bleach and since he chews on everything then no it's not for me and yes it's overkill.

KOKO with that; it seems to be working for you! I really don't care what people use to clean, im just saying that if you want go by the recommendations of most major healthcare professionals, bleach is the way to go.
