Long time no see. My reno still lingers at 80% done. Any second now MH is going to finish the basement stairs. I swear. It'll happen. I'll even post pictures.
In the meantime - I went and got KTFU again. So now I get to decorate another bedroom!
I'm in love with this rug. I know it's not the highest quality - hand tufted, wool/viscose blend - but....eh? I want to get it in plenty of time to let it air out REALLY well before the kid arrives.
So I'm thinking an undersea kinda theme going on. I don't tend to commit super hard to a theme - #1 we did owls, I got three watercolor prints to hang together, a friend made me another piece of art and I did a birch tree stencil behind the crib. Done and done. Plain bedding, non-owl related rug, etc. But then I was gifted like 43598769486 owl items, so it came out pretty owley. Given that this is #2, obviously no shower, so less chances for random theme items to be gifted.
Crib and chair will remain the same as in #1's nursery (just moving this stuff into the other bedroom and she'll get big girl furniture at some point between now and July. eek!). Stuff in Shorti's room -
The rug comes in a MILLION colors. www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-octopus-tail/midnight/200JRKT18C-508.html I don't know yet if we're team pink or blue, but we are going to find out. (that's in march) I'm leaning gray, but MH makes faces when I say that. I love gray and tend to default to neutrals. He does not. The gray with orange might be really fun and I think would work either way - but I'm not sure what else I'd pair that with. (color wise) Purple is my favorite color in general, so of course I like that idea. I don't like the idea of a white background for a kid's room, so I think those are out. The pink and the aqua are both a little bright for me. And the beige is just....beige. I don't hate it. But if I did that I'd want to do something fun on the walls I think.
The walls in this room are currently SW Wool Skein, which reads as just a ever so slightly green tinged warm neutral in that room. Repainting is always an option, but super bonus points for suggestions that work with the existing color. Trim is a warm white. Floors are oak. Picture of room with current random half-asssed guest room furniture:
Thoughts? Color scheme is my first thing - but random etsy art that any octopus lovers have bookmarked or fabric or whatever is totally welcome. I just need to brainstorm and I am having a hard time getting started.

ktzmoh has an octopus bathroom, if I recall correctly. She may be able to refer you to art and/or accessories.
Also ... how did I miss that announcement? Congrats!!
As regards the rug, I like the navy and purple best, followed by the orange. So ... I guess if it's a girl, do the purple and if it's a boy do the navy?

thanks!
So...I feel like the navy and the existing wall color would actually work together quite well. yes? the purple less so, but probably workable. Any thoughts on accent color if I went navy?
ktzmoh that is the best hook EVER. I might need it.
My brother and SIL are having a boy ~April 1 and are doing an orange & gray theme in the nursery. I think my brother has only painted so far. Their last name is a cute animal name so I bet they will get 9,343,758 things with that on it and the theme will be created for them. Here's their bedding set off the registry...
Navy. Is the one everyone is calling aqua called "Blue Waters?" If so, that does not read aqua to me. With navy, you could keep the current color.
This totally isn't helpful, but I'm dropping it here anyway: www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Danica+Studio+odyssey. It's not over-the-top octopus, pulls in the sea, throws in a whale. You could make something out of the shower curtain or tea towels (regular curtains, pillows, whatever). I know, the curtain is a bit pricey, but you can probably find it elsewhere for less.

yeah, that's what I was calling aqua. I guess it's a little darker than aqua. turquoise? bright slightly greenish toned blue. whatever you call that.
and ooohhhh, now I want the diaper bag. Which is not the subject at hand, but it's CUTE!
Plus navy can be boy or girl and you can buy now. If it's a boy add some yellow accents, to the gray/navy combo. If it's a girl add some pink to the gray/navy combo.
Hmmm, I do love navy and pink. And navy and yellow. Maybe navy regardless. I like this idea.
Though of course this means that I have the sudden nearly uncontrollable urge to shop for yarn to make a pretty blanket in either pink or yellow. BUT AGAIN I HAVE TO WAIT BECAUSE REASONS.
Maybe I can just buy yarn for either and gift the 2nd blanket. It's not like I'm going to finish it anytime soon anyway....
Get the rug in navy! It will work for boy or girl as PP pointed out, goes nicely with your current wall color in the room, and navy is its own neutral.
I love the rug! Do you like nautical elements? That is the direction I'd go with it to avoid it being too "10,000 Leagues Under the Sea"... but I know that isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you don't like nautical and want it more under the sea based, I wouldn't do quite so many octopus items as posted above. I'd use the rug, and possibly one print in a collection of other sea creature prints.
I would do a navy rug or grey rug, with grey walls, white crib, and bright curtains and artwork.
I do like nautical - and we have a boat and live near the chesapeake bay, so crabs etc, are totally up our alley. But I do also kinda love the 1000 leagues under the sea kind of feel, which is actually what i had mind...maybe even a little touch of steampunk. I like both. I'll have to see if MH has an opinion. He does sometimes much to my chagrin.
I think if I do navy I'm going to keep the existing tan walls. Seems silly to repaint them a different neutral when the existing one will work fine. especially since I can see MH's face now if I suggested ANOTHER gray room. (nursery #1 is a purple gray. downstairs bathroom is a blue gray. I want to paint the downstairs guest room a darker shade of the downstairs bathroom gray...) And double especially since I've got the entire downstairs two levels of my (split level) house to paint between now and this baby arriving. Assuming the stairs and trim get done ever.
Eeek congrats!! I read wawa and nursery and got all excited.
I love that rug. I think the navy color is my favorite but the purple is a nice dark color as well. Both would work with your existing wall color. I completely understand on wanting to keep the same wall color because we did the same thing. Our nursery wall color is a little more green and there are both navy and a corally pink (among other colors).
I love the idea of navy and pink if it's another girl. The navy would go with a lot of colors. I'd try to find some fun fabric, bedding, or curtains to pull your colors from and go from there.
When I saw that rug I immediately thought of this print and then this nursery:
But I know there are a lot of cool octopus prints out there. You could also mix it up with a mobile that has boats or fun colored fish.
MH thinks the navy is "a little dark" and prefers the turquoise color. I really wish sometimes I had one of those husbands who thought home decorating was a deep dark mystery best left to women. Mostly because then I could just do what I want instead of talking him into what I want.
my heart is pretty well set on navy I think. This was super helpful you guys, I'm totally buzzing around with actual ideas now instead of being stuck on "uhhhhhh.....rug. good."

IDK if it helps, but I love this (Kallax) turquoise storage system from IKEA, and you can NEVER have enough storage in baby and/or kid room. It comes in a bunch of different sizes Maybe you can do navy blue with turquoise accents, to keep the hubs happy?
I would keep the walls and do navy, and then a bright pop of color - lime green, yellow, or bright pink. Since the walls are a greenish tan, I think the lime might work well.
wawa.. are you due in July like me? Cuz that Lemon in your siggy is the fruit of the week for the size of the baby! ;-)
July 27! 14 weeks as per the baby center emails which are the only way I can keep track of which week I'm in. Given my track record with being induced at 42 weeks with #1, I'm betting this means August. (my mom went late with me too, my sister was late with all three of hers, etc)
Oh I remember looking so forward with everyone else during those last two weeks of pregnancy! LOL! I am due the 22nd! But I get to schedule my delivery since the last one was C-section. I was told I would be late too for a first pregnancy but my water broke 3 days before due date and my snooty cervix wouldn't open up. Haha.. so given my record I probably won't dilate again hence the scheduled C-section.
How have you been doing symptom wise? Craving anything?

First tri was a little rough food wise. I was hungry all the time, but nothing sounded good except really random junk like sour gummi candies and stuff dipped in buffalo sauce and I was constantly mildly nauseated. It felt like being hungover for 2 months. The aversions and nausea have let up, but sour or spicy anything still sounds delicious.
that's pretty consistent with the first time around. So far it's pretty similar. The only new thing this time is random hormonal acne around my mouth and chin.
I had a pretty easy (though never ending) pregnancy the first time, so I've got my fingers crossed for this time.
Ditto on the buffalo sauce! I can't eat enough spicy food. Craving mom's cooking and nothing I cook turns out like hers. And during first tri the only aversion I had was to Cod fish. My poor DH cooked that fish 3 separate times with 3 different seasonings and all I could smell and taste was ammonia! It was so weird. Lol! And I used to be able to eat frozen dinners from healthy choice steamers. The chicken just tastes gross. Even in 2nd trimester.
