How funny! Ray just ordered a standing desk for his office. I told him in the Carrie mom voice "they're all gonna laugh at you!"
Someone in my office discovered that you could move up one part of your cube desk to standing height and leave the other half at sitting level. This started a craze of people having to make standing cube desks. All of us lazy assholes laughed at them a lot as we stuffed our faces full of delicious lunch.
I really want a standing desk, but I would need disability papers (reasonable accommodation) to get one now. However, once I start working from home full time I'm going to get myself a treadmill desk.
Two of my co-workers have had the standing desks installed. I'm not quite at the point of getting one myself, but I'm contemplating it. As I get older, it's harder for me to sit for too long.

There actually is one on the 2nd floor, but I have no idea if its plugged in/who gets to use it. That's the "executive" floor (there are non-execs on that level as well though). I'd have to haul all my crap up there... just to fall on my face. I would be working on a spreadsheet and forget to walk or something.
I think I'm going to borrow a co-worker's yoga ball just for fun.
I have to stand at my "desk" (it's actually a table) at work. Sometimes it's okay, but when I need to focus on something (writing my review, schedules, ect) I prefer to sit. My buddy manager and I had brought down a chair so I could sit but another manager moved it somewhere, claiming she didn't even have enough room to work.

With all of the evidence about the health implications of sitting down all day, I'd love a standing desk. We don't have that option though. Not sure when you have to make your decision, but you could get a large storage bin and a large, flat cutting board (or other flat surface to place on top of the upside-down storage bin) and place your monitor, keyboard and mouse on top and try it out for a week. See if you like it.
