Ok. So the night before last, N woke up out a dead sleep with what turned out to be croup. Went to the ER, got the steroid.
He has not coughed since then. We kept him home yesterday for obvious reasons. But...he was fine. Zero coughing and no other signs of illness.
We also kept him home today because...well, we felt it was what we "should" do. He sleep through the night with zero coughing. He did have a bit of stuffy nose this morning but H has a cold, and otherwise he was running around like normal.
So.......I mean is this how croup works? Get the good drugs and you're good to go? Or does a big cold usually follow having croup?
We are going to be in deep shit if he can't go to daycare tomorrow because both of us have critical meetings that we honestly can't miss or reschedule. My dad has a mild flu and my mom has a bad headcold and even if she could watch him, she couldn't get to my house in time due to her work schedule.
Daycare isn't going to side eye me for sending him tomorrow, right?

Steroids are miracle workers. Without the steroids the croup cough only lasts a few days, with another day or two of cold symptoms, for my boys. I'm betting N is better or nearly so.

The steroid helps BIG TIME. DD's Croup seemed to disappear overnight, too. I also coupled it with hanging damp towels all over her room, and steam treatments in the bathroom. As long as there is no fever and she feels okay, I say send her to daycare.

DS gets croup frequently. We don't even get steroids anymore. He wakes up one night has the croup cough. We do a steamy bathroom and an abuterol treatment for good measure (although croup involves the throat, and abuterol is for lungs, so I am sure it does nothing). Then we practice calming breaths with him. He falls asleep and is typically fine the next day (with a minimal cough, but not croupy just regular cough).

Tell me your experiences with croup...and wwyd.
Penny was hospitalized a couple of times with it when she was young. IME, she would be fine during the day, some cold symptoms, but running around like normal. It was night when she got bad. If he has no fever, and just normal kid cold symptoms, I would send him.
Thanks everyone - this is the first time in a really long time I've been thrown for a loop with an illness. We are so used to the typical cold + 24 hour fever + annoying cough for a few days cycle that I was like WHAT THE WHAT with this croup business with zero other symptoms.
