We ate in front of the tv too but only because we had a card table for a dining room table. Since we upgraded last month, we now eat in the dining room unless our show is on.

We eat at the table, with the exception of Friday night, which is pizza night.
I wouldn't be able to cut my food without making a huge mess on the couch. It's also now pretty much the only time both of us are not looking at a TV, tablet, or phone. I'd kind of like to keep it that way.
In front of the TV. I'm on the loveseat, he's on the couch. There's too much crap on our kitchen table! In the 6 years we have lived together, I think we have had 5 meals at the table - all holidays! LOL.
We eat in the living room. When I first got our dinning room table, we gave it a shot. And we didn't know what to talk about with each other as we sat there, staring at each other, eating our food. lol.

We never ate in front of the TV growing up. There just wasn't enough seating for 7 people on the couch, LOL. I'm sure that's part of why it would feel weird to me.
One thing is we ALWAYS have to have some music playing when we eat. Our Sonos was down once and it just felt soooooo awkward. LOL.
We've always eaten meals together at the table. DH grew up doing this with his parents, and I did not. For as long as we've been a couple, it's been important to us. But I know many happy families don't sit together, and that's fine. To each their own!
We went out to eat all the time. It was our thing When we were expecting our first we swore we'd still eat out at decent restaurants all the time. We were very, kids-won't-change-our-lifestyle. Lolololol
TV. I was actually thinking the other day just how judge-worthy it would be if I set up DS's high chair in the living room once he hits that stage. heh
