I normally look forward to MH traveling. I love having the house to myself for a few days and am generally really productive, but this trip feels really long and I wish he was home. Maybe it's just the weather and that my plans have been shifted, rescheduled or cancelled, but the house feels weird and lonely. We haven't been in a good place and I didn't think this trip would phase me, but I really kind of miss him. Two more days to go!

I posted this in CEP
One step forward, two steps back.
I accidentally ally set off the smoke detector while cooking, and my dog had a fit. Now he's scared to be in here, even if I'm there. He is shaking and whining as I type this.
So so mad at myself. Not even sure how to deal with this, on top of his existing separation anxiety.

Hugs to you and your pup! Separation anxiety is so trying. Is he food motivated? Maybe a couple high value treats to show him that it's not so scary?

Thanks.
He is very food motivated. He started doggy xanax a few weeks ago, and I've been trying to combine that with the some separation anxiety tips from "I'll be home soon". I did give him some high-value treats to keep his mind off of the alarm, that has long since been off and put his Thundershirt on. The exhaust fan is still on. I hope when I turn that off, that will calm him down some.
It breaks my heart for him, but at the same time it is very trying/grating on my nerves.
I keep thinking today is Friday. That's serious disappointment each time I remember it's not.
Thank you.
Don't you hate when you think it's one day and it's not. I thought I only had three days of classes left, but it was really four. I was disappointed when I realized it was four.
I babysat for a family in college. Great family, very cool people. Their kids sometimes made funny comments about, "daddy went to India to find himself." (The dad was gone on a 6 week trip at the time). Then the mom was gone for her own 6 week trip. He's a doctor and she has a trust fund, so whatever...
Mast forward 10 years and the dad is now DD's pediatrician. He doesn't wear a ring when we else him but a lot of guys don't. Outside of dr's visits, we don't keep in touch. When I ask how the family is he mentions his sons but never his wife.
Well, I haut ran into his wife at the gym for the first time in like 8 years. She seemed astonished that I'm married and have a kid. I didn't mention that her H (ExH?) is dd's pediateician.
orangeblossom, aw, poor doggy. I hope he calms down soon.
I am (not so secretly) proud that my niece looks a lot like me.
Thanks. He's a lot more calm now. Of course he does this after DH comes home, and acts like I've been torturing him all day
You should be proud that your niece looks like you; it means she's quite pretty!
What a lovely compliment. Thank you! However, she does look like me I will make sure that she is well-versed in the eyebrow maintenance and skincare at a much younger age
Stupid vent - In the "olden days" when I just did direct therapy, a snow day was a snow day. I watched movies, baked cookies, snuggled with DH, etc. Now that I'm a supervisor I spent all day working. Conference calls and emails and data review and phone consults...
In the olden days I bitched about not making money on snow days. Now I bitch that the money doesn't mean anything if I never get to enjoy it! Sigh.

Speaking of eyebrow maintenance, how young is too young for waxing/threading/etc? In your opinion.

Well, I discovered it at age 32, so before then? If I were the one choosing, probably sometime in the HS range (16?)

I'll let SIL field that one.
Please if the kid is half as hairy as I was let her start younger! Tweezers and threading are usually easier on sensitive/young skin. By 6th grade school was hell with a uni-brow and hairy arms and legs. I cut myself up terribly and made a mess with trying to (and to an extent succeeding) pulling hair out by hand (without tweezers, with bare fingers, with pliers, with whatever I could find) because my parents didn't want me to remove hair "too young" if the kid is asking and isn't 5 work with the kid.
