I honestly don't remember from DS1 - I feel like a FTM! Please excuse the rambling.
DS2 is 14 weeks on Friday.
Basically how many hours during the day should he be asleep?
At this age, should I still be nursing every three hours?
He's not a big nurser and will not just eat if offered - his brother would and that's a bit more difficult as I'm not sure how to increase his daytime consumption.
We finally were successfully in moving bedtime to 8:00 p.m and he wakes for the day between 6:30 a.m and 7:00 a.m. However, he's increased his night nursing since this happened. I feel like his bigger meals are now at night as opposed to during the day and he is more awake at night. We are having a hard time getting him back to sleep after each meal. Last night he nursed at 7:30 pm, 12:30 am , 3;45 am and woke at 7:00 am. Frankly at 3:45 am and 7 us was difficult to get him in the mood to nurse.
Here is a current schedule: 7:00 am: wake and nurse 8:45 am: nurse 9:00 - 9:45 am: nap
And the rest is a mess. I think that's part of the problem. I'm taking his brother to classes, etc so he falls asleep at random places and that impacts nap, etc.
Yesterday, he slept a total of 5 hours during the day.
Thoughts? Am at a loss, I think I need to go back to the baby app to record his daytime eating. He's so happy and chill that I worry he's hungry, but not telling me.
I realise this is long and not clearly written. Apologies, thank you!!
I have always just gone with the flow. I think as long as he is gaining weight appropriately then you can nurse him on demand. If you want, you can offer after 3 hours and if he refuses just wait awhile and try again. I'm pretty sure they won't let themselves starve.
If you google "baby sleep charts" there are a bunch. It looks like his sleep is right on track for his age.
The more awake at night could be the start of the 4MW. DS started at 15 weeks.
How's his weight? G is small so I still nurse at night if it's been 2-3 hours since he last ate. If he wakes earlier than that I'll find his paci, rub his back, or rock him.
Can you try to get him on a more consistent schedule? Not necessarily impose one on him, but follow his cues and look for patterns? I know that's easier said than done since you've got ds1, though.
Mine are the same age but were preemies. They wake around 8 am. Eat every 3 hours. I try to get at least an hour nap. Sometimes are longer and some are short. In evening they eat at 430/5 then around 6 have another ounce or two (I ep) then take a cat nap. At 7 they play more or we do bath and get jammies. 730 is bottle and bed. They wake around 2 &5 am for bottles.
For sleep during day I'd say it's anywhere from 5-7 hours of sleep. If we go run errands they crash in the car and take long naps. They still sleep good at night.
I try to keep them awake 1 1/2 hrs including feeding time and then try to nap. They nap after 8 am 11 and 2 pm feeding so 3 good ones during day. They don't always have evening cat nap if we are out somewhere. Depends on how good they slept during the day.
I'd do a dream feed when you go to bed, for sure, at that age.
It's also going to vary by child. Sorry, but #2 won't do what #1 did, so even if you remembered, it doesn't help. There comes a point where being home for at least once a day is pretty crucial, but for me, that was more like 6 months.

He's a big boy. Per his pedi long and skinny. At his two month appt (three month is next week), he was in his 98% for height at 24 inches and 68% for weight which was 13 lbs 4 oz.
I'm not worried about him not gaining. My first son had a ton of patterns, O not so much. The only pattern I've noticed is when he cries, he's ready to nap. And I usually try to get him down before this happens.
I feel bad because with DS1, it was working with his schedule and poor baby 2 it's very different, but I'm trying.

I'll try that tonight. It never worked with my first, he loved to eat and would just wake up at the same time again for another meal!
Since DS1 also naps, everyone naps in their crib in the afternoon. DS2 usually has his short afternoon nap at home too. Much to DS1 dismay, I don't try him alone downstairs, so he's forever coming upstairs to put the baby down for nap!
