Did this bill have any exceptions for the life of the mother, or exceptions for severely disabled fetuses? Because if abortion gets banned at 20 weeks and you can't find out about a life threatening chromosomal disorder until 22-24 weeks, you are still fucked.
I hate that men who don't know science and don't know any given individuals circumstances can shove their ideas into a woman's uterus. Fuck them all.
Yeah, allllllll this. Because the rape exception is, IMO, a red herring. If you honestly don't think a woman who found out that her child had a severe case of amniotic band syndrome or another condition that was either incompatible with life or would cause excruciating pain to the child, has the right to decide to terminate that pregnancy, then I will not be giving you any props for "standing up" for the "right thing" just because you disliked the lack of rape provision.
God, this issue makes me furious.
I really don't understand why this isn't more of a moderate position for Rs to take than having a rape exception. It would be much easier to argue that a rape victim doesn't need 20 weeks to make a decision than to completely ignore the medical issues that make late-term termination a completely valid choice.

Because god might perform miracles and your Tay-Sachs baby could live a long healthy life!
Eh. I think it USED to be a given that any bill would have provisions for rape, incest and the life and health of the mother. I think if you look at stats, something like only 15% of Americans support an outright ban on abortion that wouldn't account for those things.
But part of me thinks that kind of bill is so transparently misogynist because if it's really about the "sanctity of life" then the baby doesn't care if it's the result of a rape. So a bill with those exceptions gets more people on board AND lets the GOP get away with their 19th century mentality when it comes to a woman's place.
So on one hand, I'm shocked that they haven't moved maybe AS right as I thought if they are still fighting for those provisions, since I've seen them stripped away lately. On the other hand, fuck them.

"Females" gives me the douchechills not only because it's an adjective, but because it points explicitly at biology. He might just as well have said "those GOP vaginas" because that's the attribute he's making salient.
I'm with you, but I really don't understand why that word bothers me so much.
Because 9 times out of 10, when it's being used, they'd never use the word "males" instead of "men" if genders were reversed. I actually make it a practice to replace the words and read it over, since being irritated at it's use is becoming a knee jerk reaction for me. That's how I'm able to identify the blatantly othering instances when the use of the word "females" in place of "women" is occurring. So I can be justifiably outraged. heh
My sister's BFF just delivered a baby who was never going to make it and it's been fucking traumatic and devastating for them and they chose this route. Chose. I can't imagine the GOVERNMENT forcing you to do this. It is fucking barbaric and cruel and inhumane and vile to force a woman to birth a baby who will die w/in seconds and may suffer the whole way until that point.

It gives me the same feelings about sexism as hearing someone over-pronounce the H in "white" gives me feelings about racism.

I fully agree. I probably shouldn't be surprised, but I am still shocked and horrified at all these proposed restrictions.

But we aren't women, remember, we are just livestock breeding stock to these fuckers.
