Update: I was able to verify through my benefits dept. this morning that they received my online application and they were able to make it retroactive for 1/1. They also gave me a group number and I could be able to print cards tomorrow. Phew. Okay. This baby can come at any second now that that is taken care of.
Thanks for all of your advice, ladies.
The sad news is that this insurance is 500 a month more than dh's insurance and in going to have 2 months deducted from my feb paycheck, which is already lower because I am paying for my sub. Lame! Oh well.
Did they tell you why? It doesn't seem right that they can just do that, let alone with zero notice. That is such a huge headache and I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Sending big hugs and hoping everything is resolved quickly and easily.

Dh has been on disability for three years now, so they just officially fired him on Monday since he hasn't worked in 3 years. The disability is from a work comp injury that he is still receiving treatment for.
You can probably get another month of coverage through COBRA. You would be paying all of the insurance premium for a month, but it would be less than paying out of pocket for delivery. Just in case you can't get your insurance to cover you in time.

I am so sorry. That is super stressful. But keep in mind them dropping you would make you eligible for cobra, and you can buy cobra and get it backdated. It wouldn't be cheap but it wouldn't be horrible, and if you can't get coverage, the hospital would reduce the bills a bunch. It will work out one way or the other.
Just try to realize there is nothing you can do tonight and not freak out, that stress isn't good for you right now.
I'm sorry. Can you check into insurance laws? Because I think there are some rules regarding giving notice for cancellation. They vary state by state and depend on how large the company is, but this might be a good place to start: work.chron.com/can-employer-cancel-health-care-benefits-telling-me-25295.html

We received the cobra application. It's a little more than 1500.
However, I just finished signing up online for insurance through my district. I just have to wait until tomorrow to call my district to verify it. They should back date my district insurance to 1/1/15 to make sure there isn't a lapse. At least, that is what they said, but there is no way to confirm right now. And I think my current OB is on the new plan...I'm like 95 percent sure.
That sucks! Hopefully your new insurance can be back dated. I hope it all works out. If you know what provider your insurance is through, most of them have websites to check to see if your OB is covered.
Oh gosh, I am so sorry you are dealing with this, how stressful. I hope you're able to get confirmation ASAP tomorrow so you don't have to do cobra and hopefully you can get some rest tonight.
If you have set it up with your employer but are just waiting for the info / cards there is a potential that you are covered during this time and will simply have to show bills and be reimbursed once you get the information.
We just made a bunch of changes to our coverage since it's now cheaper for all of us to be on one plan and the rep I talked to said that even though it might take a week or two to get the new cards, if we had anything like a hospital visit that requires confirmation we could have the hospital call them. It would be a pain, but my guess is that your new insurance through work would be able to do the same until you get your cards.
Oh my gosh, that's so frustrating! I just talked to my district and DH (who helps run the plan at his work) about our insurance for leave and they have to back date it to the 1st if you qualify for a change of life event, which that seems like it would be. I hope you get easy answers tomorrow!

Wow, that's awful! And what horrible timing! It sounds like you are covered by your work plan now and just don't have your cards yet, right? If so you should be okay.
If your current OB isn't on the plan, you might be able to get an exception if you use the term "continuation of care" with the insurance company, especially since you are so far along and can't reasonably switch doctors at this point.
