Anyone have thoughts on a ceiling fixture for a living room? We have 8 foot ceilings, so DH is really pushing for a flushmount or semi flushmount. For parties, people tend to stand in that room. I can't find anything I love in a flushmount though. I still think the right chandelier could work if it's over the coffee table, and we hang it high. Of course, it can't look like we just put a dining room chandelier close to the ceiling.
Sigh....
We lean traditional, this is for the room that's getting the wainscoting. The room is 18x 15.5, so I think the fixture should be at least 24" wide if not more. Thoughts?
I've been looking at ring style chandeliers. More transitional ones too More elaborate (DH would probably nix this one) A more lacy chandelier (less heavy w/o shades & thick metal)
I'm all over the place here....help please! Houzz is full of places w/10+ foot ceilings and whatnot.

This probably doesn't help, but I think we are just going to recessed lighting in our living room. It's so much more practical. The rooms we've put it in are hugely improved.

I love recessed lighting. I want to put in like 6 of those too to prevent shadows and light up the edges of the room. But I really want to do a center fixture since the room lacks a great focal point (aside from the awesome wainscoting I'm doing).
On a related note, it's annoyingly difficult to find good living room inspiration pics that don't have fireplaces.

I think DH is sort anti crystal but maybe he'll come around. Maybe we could do one of those Pottery barn flushmounts w/the crystals.
nursecramer re: fixtures in adjacent rooms, I want to put a classic bell jar fixture in the foyer (which you can see from the living room) - e.g. The dining room is also right there, and this chandelier is in there.

Aw shucks. I'm in the "One can never have enough crystal" camp.
Agreed! Maybe he just needs to see some in person. I think he has this idea of a tacky Vegas casino in his re: re: crystal flushmounts.
A piece of my is considering more of a statement piece, something cool e.g., this
I am probably alone in this, but I think with 8 ft ceilings, a light fixture in the middle of the living room will be kind of odd.
In a room like a living room (particularly with ceilings that aren't that high), you use table lamps, a hanging lamp in a place where someone won't clobber their head, or maybe recessed lighting.

I agree. We have a flush mount with our 8 ft ceilings. I can't imagine something lower. And we also never turn it on. We have table lamps set in timers.
I'd do a semi-flush mount in a LR with 8' or 9' ceilings. I really like the first and last ones nursecramer posted. I could see the first in my upstairs hall. Thanks for that.
My aunt has an antique chandelier in her LR, but it's an antique house with high ceilings and other quirks. DH just barely clears it.
My parents had a MCM sofa with floating endtables over which they hung tall oragami drum lights. But they weren't in the middle of a room.

Good feedback y'all. I would do sconces but there's no great place to place them. But it sounds like I should stick with a flush mount or just recessed lights. I'll have to mull this over.
