At work. We got 2 feet of snow and the office was closed for 2 days. They didn't clear the stairs in the parking garage very well and even being super careful holding the railing I slipped and fell on my butt and slid down about 5 steps. It was so scary. I'm sure I'm fine but called my doc and they had me go in to be monitored. I didn't realize though they are going to keep me for 2 hours! This sucks. I hope I don't have to use PTO for the time away from work. How does that work?

Is your company accountable for cleaning those stairs? If so they better not charge you for any PTO!! If it happened on company property it should be billed as a workers comp claim.
I don't know, but I recommend getting HR/legal involved since this could be a workman's comp issue, and they'll want to make sure procedures are followed.
I'm 24 weeks. Yes I emailed my boss and facilities about the stairs. They already sent me an incident form to fill out. I've never dealt with workers comp. I hope it isn't too much of a pain! I'm bored and starving. I know it is better to be safe than sorry but this feels like a huge waste of time. Sigh.

They would be huge asshole to even suggest you use your PTO. I would refuse, and expect to get paid while you're out for monitoring. Accept nothing less. Seriously.

I emailed and complained about the stairs this morning too!!! You def won't need to use PTO, I wouldn't even worry about that for a second. I hope you feel better!

I fell twice. It sucks. And both times were at busy shopping malls so everyone could turn around and STARE AT THE PREGNANT LADY WHO JUST BIT IT HARD ON THE STAIRS. Ugh. I felt so embarassed.
I sat for a few minutes then carried on. So long as I wasn't spotting and still felt movement I decided things were fine.

This, I wouldn't worry at all. If anything they are all FREAKING OUT that the pregnant lady fell on the stairs.
Thanks everyone! I think I'm fine. The nurse checked the monitor and said it all looks good. I think they'll send me home soon. I ordered lunch, I hope they bring it soon! I'm starving! I hope I can eat it before they discharge me.
HR emailed me with workers comp forms so hopefully I'll be all set. I feel relieved! Just a sore butt.
I'm sorry to hear that, hope all is well and you're not too sore! I work in HR and I 100% agree with the advice you've been given - the stairs should have been cleared and salted and you should not be required to take time off to get medical care. I don't know where you live, but here (Ontario, Canada) you legally have to be paid for the time off required to obtain medical assistance as a result of an incident.

Glad to hear everything is ok! I'm shocked I haven't fallen yet this winter, although I almost did at a daycare we went to visit (they apparently weren't open, which would have been nice to know when they set up the appointment..).

Ugh, I fell in our work parking lot yesterday too, but it wasn't even icy. I think the pavement was just uneven from the cool weather/thawing/freezing/etc. I had to fill out all of our Incident Reports, which is good because I wasn't sure how stiff and sore I would be today, but I've been pretty anxious about it at 26w. The baby is moving around as much as normal, but I wish I had gone to get checked out like you did...

not to scare you or anything but more to inform you and others here...I fell at around 36 wks and also didn't want to go in for monitoring but called anyways and they were adament that I come in. Anyways, they monitor for 4 hrs and it's primarily because they are concerned about the placenta being damaged from the fall. Baby is almost always well cushioned and ok. Please, if you fall it's not worth it- go for monitoring. It sucks but better safe than sorry.
