Anyone who thinks their religious beliefs should be legislated and forced on everyone is a narrow minded idiot and hasn't bothered to actually read the constitution.
Me Before You by Jojo Moe's is a terrible book with one dimensional characters and a plot that you see coming from the beginning. It is Hallnark Movie bad. The love it gets makes me mad.
Oh I love Hallmark movies. Maybe another UO or possibly a confession?Â
I actually enjoy them in a certain cheesy mood, for their badness. But I don't try and pretend they're art.

This can't be a UO??
Based on how the midterm elections went it seems to be. The very first thing Congress did when the new Congress was sworn in was to attack women's rights!

I used to have an obscene amount of shoes for DD, even as a baby. I didn't even put shoes on DS until he was 10months and walking haha.
DD has a moderate amount of shoes now which is much more reasonable and DS has a couple pairs but will only keep one particular pair on his feet, so that's what he wears.
IDC how much stuff people have but I do think it's really easy to get carried away with kids stuff. I know I'm guilty of it, especially if I find a great deal.
I have a friend who posts pictures of all the clothes and junk she gets her kids with captions like "baby girl has a shopping problem" and 15 new pairs of shoes and 10 new outfits...that kind of stuff is eye roll worthy.
Not true if your baby will only keep on super tight shoes and not socks.
True (although footed onesies are an option I suppose) but he doesn't need 14 pairs either.
Being wasteful had negative repercussions so I think you can eye roll at someone's choices without being jealous.
What repercussions? I resell or donate everything so it's always used again. My kid as a ridiculous amount of baby toys, I bought most used and am reselling one by one. I guess I just don't see why you care or how it truly effects you in any way. I think it's a stupid thing to judge about.

Just read this and the ending was so stupid. It was on rails.

I think an excessive amount of "stuff" can have negative repercussions. Too many toys can be over stimulating to kids. Plus it can lead to a materialistic mentality, it's environmentally wasteful etc. More stuff leads to more messes, at least at my house.
And I don't really care how other people spend their money either, I'm just saying there can be negative effects. I'm currently dealing with a way too many toys situation and purging and selling. I didn't buy 90% of my kids toys. My family goes way overboard and they just have too much.

I could go on for hours but the child labor that goes into a single pair of nikes (never mind 14 pairs for an infant) is one. Obviously resources are used and overindulgence doesn't have a great societal impact.
Lol that we only judge things that personally effect us here.
Yep that's my main issue with it. It just feels so wasteful to me. Like I think of how many kids out there don't have a single pair of shoes and an infant has 25??
I am not the most eco-friendly person is the world, but I know there is nothing earth friendly about having 25 pairs of shoes for an infant or a different outfit for every single day of the school year.
I have read excerpts from the book Overdressed and I think that's why I feel this way.

You do realize that my kid having only 5 pairs of shoes vs a kid having 20 doesn't mean the poor kids with no shoes magically have 15 right? Your logic is flawed. It's like telling a kid to eat all their food because there are starving kids in Africa its dumb.
And actually you could say the opposite since I donate all our old clothes now there are kids that have clothes that didn't thanks to my overbuying.

This! We donate-big time! So all my kid's nice stuff goes to those less fortunate. I don't see wasteful, I see it as paying it forward
Along these lines, I just do not get people who are getting professional pix taken of their kids for every.single.occasion and handing them out to everyone each time. I like an occasional pix of someone else's kid....but like 1 to 2x a year max. More than that and they just go in the trash.
I get dd's pictures taken all the time. I don't hand out pictures, though. I mail some 4x6s to family without Facebook but that's more so they can see her. I don't expect them to be displayed or whatever.
I don't buy Girl Scout Cookies. They're overpriced. My supermarket store brands makes rip off Samoas, Taglongs and Thin Mints. They taste the same and have more cookies per box for $1-2 cheaper. And I can get them year round.
I think baby shoes are dumb. Mallory has yet to have a pair on her feet ever. I bought Robeez (do they count as shoes? I think of them as slippers) but she won't wear them. She just chews on them.
I don't care that my kids have way too many toys. They all get played with. Both kids are great at playing alone and together. They'll all get donated later so my kids getting too many will mean more kids getting them down the line too.
Of course you can get them cheaper. The point is that they're the main fundraising effort for GS, not that they're some amazing bargain! The rip offs are okay, no question, but not quite as good as the real thing!
I don't particularly like any organization that makes kids sell things either. I know that they do other things that are great but that part always rubs me the wrong way.
And I have to sell crap for preschool. I know it's everywhere. I just hate it and avoid it whenever possible.
I don't know, for scouts the reason they do this is so that the cost of joining is a barrier to as few people as possible. I know for us it was under $60/year per kid and they do a ton of stuff. They also waive the costs for families who can't afford it. For an activity that meets every two weeks for the entire school year and takes trips all over the place that's crazy cheap.
I have a huge issue with fundraisers for a tuition-based school, but to keep scouting accessible to as many girls as possible I think it's fine. That said, I won't help boy scouts since their organization sucks.
