I support the GS and we buy cookies each year, but I agree with Kimbus, I HATE making kids sell stuff....hated it as a kid, and feel bad for kids doing it now.

This is in relation to Girl Scout cookies….I HATE when people sell them by posting "hey my kid is selling cookies. Who wants some"? When I was little I went door to door. Period. I had to ring the bell, tell them what I was selling, etc. My parents never took the order form to work/outings/friends. It was on me.
At the soccer field last Fall a mom friend said "little Johnny is selling popcorn for Cub Scouts if you are interested". I said, "send him over to me". He came over, and I stood there while he told me what he was selling and why. I then purchased it.
A friend of mine has two girls in Girl Scouts. THey refused to sell cookies and she told the troop leader she wasn't bailing them out this year by doing the work for them. The troop leader didn't believe her at first, and was visible irritated.

They're actually no longer allowed to go door to door for safety reasons. And LOL at assuming putting it on FB is the only way someone is selling. I put it out there on FB because I have a huge family spread across the country but at the moment have the only girl scouts, so quite a few were thrilled to order and support their troops. It is far from the only selling I'm doing, but why not use social media for that?

They are not allowed to go door to door? I have never heard that. Many still go door to door here, and that's who I buy from. They usually have a parent with them. And yes, the ones posting on FB I still judge. I see these moms and kids weekly. They can ask me to my face instead of clogging my feed.
So now kids can't go door to door? I just can't anymore.

They can go up to the doors of people they know, but I used to canvass neighborhoods and at least the three troops in two different states I've had kids in have all said that GSs no longer allows that. We would go to the doors of people we know, but we haven't actually met anyone local yet. My girls did call their grandparents and aunts and uncles themselves (I didn't do that for them).
Me Before You by Jojo Moe's is a terrible book with one dimensional characters and a plot that you see coming from the beginning. It is Hallnark Movie bad. The love it gets makes me mad.
Change this to "absolutely anything written by..." and I totally agree.
I wish the kids in my neighborhood would sell Girl Scout Cookies door-to-door. I can't find anyone selling them this year... I probably need to hit the supermarket on the weekend to find them.

I'm going to trust you. I'm not reading a second book to find out.

Between both troops we're doing a ton of booths! We have them outside walmart, exxon, the tractor supply store, the local diner and Wawa. Keep an eye out, I'm sure you'll find them. Apparently the cookie parent has to be very proactive because the booth slots fill up fast, so there's pretty much always a booth at every one of those places Friday through Sunday around here.
Listening to people complain about the really mundane aspects of pregnancy irritates me. Yes, you're going to gain weight and your belly will eventually pop out. THIS IS NOT NEW INFORMATION.
Kimbus, is it the school's mission to provide low cost education? Most preschools are non profit, as are most private schools. Non profit doesn't mean they can't charge competitive rates. Is $80 cheap or normal for your area? I sit on our preschool board and we do try very hard not to raise tuition unnecessarily but we also stay competitive with area schools. We also don't do scholarships or fundraisers.
I don't know, for scouts the reason they do this is so that the cost of joining is a barrier to as few people as possible. I know for us it was under $60/year per kid and they do a ton of stuff. They also waive the costs for families who can't afford it. For an activity that meets every two weeks for the entire school year and takes trips all over the place that's crazy cheap.
I have a huge issue with fundraisers for a tuition-based school, but to keep scouting accessible to as many girls as possible I think it's fine. That said, I won't help boy scouts since their organization sucks.
I get where you're coming from. And I don't disagree. If I know people in girl scouts I'll buy a box. But it's always people just leaving order forms at work and then I skip it.
And I don't like fundraisers for tuition based schools either. But I understand why Joey's school does it. They're a non-profit and a co-op. I go to the board meetings and I see the budget they work with for the year and it's amazing how much they do with so little money. They do the fundraisers so they can keep tuition down and make it accessible to more kids. It's $80/month for the 3 year olds which is extremely reasonable to me but for lots of families it's a big stretch. They do whatever they can throughout the year to raise money to avoid a tuition increase every year while maintaining the program. But generally I just mention the fundraisers to a few people who might be interested or do a FB "hey if you want something tell me" and then never bring it up again and buy a bunch of crap myself lol
Wow, $80/month is very reasonable! I can see where it would still be a stretch for many, but that's a great price. Fundraisers at that age are also for the parents, not the kids. Other than putting the info on FB to reach out of town relatives my girls are the ones making the phone calls to everyone we are asking, collecting and counting the money and taking orders. There are a ton of lessons involved in that as well (counting money, being organized, approaching people, etc), so that part is cool too. But a 3 year old isn't learning any of those lessons, it's just more work on their parents!
I hated selling gs cookies on my own, but loved doing the booths/tables outside stores with the troop. It was a lot of fun.
We'll be doing booths this year, it's my first time! That's something we didn't do in Jersey (some do it now, but never as a kid). My only complaint is that they're outside in winter, so brrr. All the pictures are clearly of kids in the South wearing t-shirts doing it lol!

I try to be patient because I know it's new for them but come on! You aren't the first pregnant person ever. Get over yourself.
I also hate the constant reminder they're pregnant. Example: One of my friends had to take a quick flight and hashtagged #thisbabydoesntlikeflying
I don't like thin mints either, but I can polish off an entire box of peanut butter patties in record time.
This, but they'll always be tagalongs to me! Give me those of samoas any day over thin mints.
I didn't even know they had different names for gs cookies until the bump. They've always been peanut butter patties here. Are samoas caramel delights? Because I love those too.
