This week the world "celebrated" the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Buzzfeed had a bunch of articles of survivors which broke my heart and there's a documentary on netflix (and YouTube where I watched it) called auschwitz: inside the state. It's a very well done bbc series that covers the camp from the prisoners AND German soldiers perspectives (which is kind of sickening). Anyway...it's important to remember..so I thought I'd share if anyone felt compelled to watch it.
Our library has a book about Auschwitz on the new arrivals shelf. The last three times I was in there I picked it up and then put it down again because I am too afraid to read it.

Thanks for sharing! DH's grandpa is a work camp survivor and we had the opportunity to visit Auschwitz during our trip to Poland last year. So sad but an important part of our history!
We had a speaker whose family lost 28 people in Auschwitz and whose wife's grandmother is a 92 year old survivor.
One of the many interesting things is that the Jewish population doesn't like the word "Holocaust" because that is a Greek word for "A burnt Sacrifice" and the Jewish population doesn't like the implication that they were sacrificed for any religious reason (as the word sacrifice implies).
So the Jewish population uses the word "Shoah" (show-ah) which means "The Unthinkable"
He (a member of the Jewish community) asked us to spread the word. So I am.

Thank you for sharing...I didn't know... I will change my verbiage.
