Thanks for all the suggestions!!! Almost seven years in the SF Bay Area, and my only visit there was when driving to Santa Barbara and stopping at Turley. I'm excited to explore.
We are taking the dog with us and it looks like lots of these places are dog friendly.
Paso is home to me, let me know if you need any recommendations! It's a great little town, and plenty of delicious wines to be had.
Ohhhh thank you!!
I do have questions. I'm totally threadhacking here!
Best tasting rooms downtown?
We're staying downtown, so we can indulge in the afternoon worrying about driving.
And I love Viognier. Any chance you have recs for good ones?
Related --- Has anyone been to Hope Family wineries? I'm skeptical of huge corporate places but I do love Treana.
I haven't been to the tasting rooms downtown, but I've heard great things about Burbank Ranch, and Paso Underground. Paso Underground is a collaborative tasting room so there will be plenty of options.
On the East side my favorites are: Broken Earth Winery, and J Lohr. Tobin pours heavy on the cheap stuff, but if they bring out any silver labels it is better wine. La Vigne has a sister cheese company on site so they do fun cheese pairs regularly.
On the West side I would visit these one (or some) of these: J Dusi (great zin if you are a fan), Opollo, Hammersky, Calcareous, Jada, Caliza, and Justin. Hands down my favorite is Epoch Estates Wines, but it is a trek out to the tasting room. There estate blend was named to the Wine Spectator's Top 100 list recently.
If beer is of any interest to you, Firestone Walker is a great local beer company. They have a tasting room and a restaurant with plenty of fresh beer on tap.
Paso is a very dog friendly area, so there will be plenty to do with the pup. The General Store downtown is an adorable little store with fun homewares and gifts, and is also dog friendly.
I can't comment on the Viognier as I drink mainly reds. The area is know for it's fruit forward zin, and bold blends so most wineries tend to lean toward that style of wine. If you really want to get some lighter wines you could make the trip down to SLO and visit the Edna Valley area (Chamisal being my favorite). Let me know if you have more questions, I would be happy to help! Enjoy your fun weekend!

Thanks!!! I love Zinfandel too!
Live tried Chamisal, their is Chardonnay is amazing!
I received a gift card to this site, and was really pleased with each bottle so far!
www.wineinsiders.com/ I got the California Mixed pack and have had them all except for 2, but it was a neat way to try some wines that wouldn't be on my local store shelf.

I discovered Riverbench (I think it was a Pinot I liked) last time we were in Los Olivos.
ESF are you staying strict to Paso, or going to Los Olivos also? They aren't too far from each other. If you venture to Los Olivos, I recommend Rancho Sisquoc, Tres Hermanas, Reiverbench and Zaca Mesa.
If I am remembering correctly, Eberle is in Paso. They have good wines. J Lohr and Justin are my faves from Paso, but they have already been mentioned.

So Paso and Los Olivos are 90 minutes apart. I guess it depends on where you are coming from. I come up from LA, so you can do Los Olivos on the way up to Paso. My family is like a wine tasting machine when we go - mom doesn't drink so she carts us around. We have done anywhere between 10 and 13 wineries in a day. I guess we cover a lot of ground that way, which is why I was thinking they were closer. Or I was drunk and don't remember the distance ...

We went to Los Olivos a few years ago and loved it. Zaca Mesa was fabulous.
Paso Robles was amazing!!!
Justin was great. I thought the Overlook Pinot was an amazing wine for $25.
brookester - took your suggestion and went to Paso Underground, which was so much fun.
Tablas Creek was my favorite. I loved all the whites there. Best red I had was at Thacher.
Definitely go to Adelaida Cellars. Amazing. JUSTIN is so over priced and overrated. I feel that with the multiple owner changes they are simply riding on the coattails of their Isoscelese. I also love Cass. And their tasting room/restaurant/winery is so beautiful. We really disliked Tablas Creek. We didn't even finish the tasting.
