I got my last tax form (well I need one more small one) in the mail yesterday so I decided to do my taxes last night
Yes yes yes I know I was complaining about it yesterday
Mh didn't work this year so it was pretty easy
I think I did something wrong though bc it said we were getting a significant refund
While this is exciting I haven't gotten a refund since 2006 so I'm guessing something is wrong so i don't want to go on a shopping spree if we get audited in 6 moths and have to pay it all back
To add I told Mh the refund number and he laughed and said I did something wrong too
Let's hope I am right and we get a refund and no audit
So what are normal range refunds? I know you aim for zero bc it means you allocated correctly and didn't Give the government a loan but what do most people get a few grand or hundred

We typically get a refund unless we make too much on stocks. We do have a lot of write offs. Usually we get between 2 and 3 thousand from federal.
After waking me up at 4, Thad woke up for good at 5:20. I had just gotten back to sleep at 5. Ugh.
We stopped Thad's night time medicine that makes him drowsy because his skin has looked so great. I know these wake ups are related to that and I flame fully considered giving the medicine for some sleep.

I feel like complete and utter shit. My whole head is stuffed up yet my nose is still somehow running. It is raw from blowing it so much. Bfing people, is there anything I can take? Saline is not cutting it.
I need to go into work for a little bit. I don't even know if I should attempt makeup with my melting face. Between this, having my period (sort of), and having to take S to the surgeon, it's shaping up to be a banner day already.

teamhayes I have no clue! We've owed the past few years.
When H was in grad school and I was the only one working, we would get a couple thousand back. But now with H working and making way more than my teacher salary it has taken us a couple of years to work out our exemptions and withholdings and such. We are hoping to beak even or owe less than $1K this year.
I love doing our taxes it gives me such a sense of accomplishment each Feb!

I am getting tired of hearing 'ma-da' sang over and over at 4:15a in the morning when I wake up at 5a. The last 3 nights, he's done this, but when I get up to pee and then go get him and bring him to our bed so I can savor my last 30-45min of sleep, he stops and essentially woke me up for nothing. I let him go for like 5min this morning, and no stopping...until I went to the bathroom.
I am wearing yoga pants and a sweatshirt to work today. (for the record, my workplace is very casual, and normally I'm in jeans and a top/sweatshirt) Not much fits anymore, so some days, I just rock the yoga pants. Probably a little too casual, but my boss has yet to say anything.
My inlaws want us to drive an hour away with them tomorrow during nap time to go out to eat with SIL's bf. B does not nap in the car, and I really don't want to go that far tomorrow. I was planning on taking him to the local children's museum in the morning, putting him down for a long nap, and relaxing. Plus, we are going over to inlaws Sunday for the super bowl. I like my inlaws, but don't think I need to see them that much. hmmm...thinking of ways to get out of tomorrow without seeming like a bitch....

I have already been panicking that G's school doesn't do a summer program of any sort.
well, they do now! It's only three weeks in June from 9-12, and only a couple of days a week, but at least I know he will have some structure and stimulation those three weeks.
We never get a refund. We always owe. I think this year it will be a 6 figure sum . Our tax guy quit a few months ago (I think he was given months to live and decided to actually live and not work) and we need to find a new one who can find some loop holes.
He starts 2 weeks of call this afternoon which means I won't see him for two weeks. I'm already in a bad mood about doing everything solo for 14 days and I'm not even out of bed yet.
Henry is awake in his crib yelling that he is "all done sleeping mama!" and I keep yelling back that "it's still dark out so lay down!"
Thank the universe that preschool isn't canceled today.
We always owe....we pay estimated quarterly taxes. ( although a few times we have overestimated /paid those and therefore gotten something back, but not the same thing)
There was a plow for some reason outside our house for about an hour at 4 AM doing a constant forward and backward thing - backward complete with loud beeping. What the fuck ! The streets are clear! WHY ARE YOU BEEPING SBD SCRAPING OUTSIDE MY WINDOW AT 4 AM FOR NO REASON?

We need to do that. It's depressing writing a big check every February.
My H was on the news this morning so I recorded it to show Olivia. She's yelling "no it's not. That's not daddy! No! My daddy is at work!" Well that backfired.
I think we got about $1300 back last year for taxes, but I'm not hopeful about this year because I think we might have jumped tax brackets.
Logan was up when I got out of the shower this morning, he usually sleeps much later, so it's going to be a long morning for my H. He sounded congested, poor little guy. He kept begging me to sit and play monster trucks with him, which made it really hard to leave.

@spegghetticat, I hope you feel Bette soon.
bebeetmoi whoa!!! I am so jealous but so happy for you too, enjoy every minute!
I am working from home today, I have to take the kids to daycare but they are both asleep, so I am letting them sleep in and drinking coffee before I take them.
I am finally getting a hair cut this afternoon, then having sushi with a girlfriend. Yay for the weekend!!!
I know utterly nothing about taxes and how it all works but for the life of me cannot understand how people end up owing money.
Well I think if you want to you can put in to take no taxes or at all. Like you set your number of exemptions and based on that they take taxes. So you could pay none and then pay it all at tax time?
I don't know much about it either but as I said yesterday I love getting tax back.
We usually get back 2k or so
I know when I get my yearly bonus they take 40 percent out of it. But I assume I don't actually have to pay 40 percent of it in tax so I guess that is part of the refund?!
We must have a tax accountant among is to explain this in a "taxes for dummies" manner
The amount of income tax that you owe each year is based on your income level. The United States currently uses a progressive income tax system — which means that the more money you earn, the more taxes you have to pay. Fortunately, there are ways you can reduce your income tax liability by using various tax credits, tax deductions, tax exclusions, and other tax breaks.
The majority of individuals are subject to the “Pay-As-You-Go” system, which means that their income tax is deducted from each paycheck and sent to the IRS. This is also referred to as withholding tax. If you are self-employed, the IRS expects you to pay income tax on a quarterly basis (typically in equal installments every 3 months).
At the end of the year, if your payments were not enough to cover the total income tax due, you must pay the rest to the IRS. Conversely, if you paid too much over the course of the year (more than what you owe in income tax), the IRS will send back your excess payment in the form of a tax refund.
Your marginal tax bracket is the highest tax rate that you will pay on your income. For tax year 2013, there are 7 marginal income tax brackets for each filing status: 10 %, 15 %, 25 %, 28 %, 33 %, 35 %, and 39.6%
The marginal tax bracket system is a gradual tax schedule, which basically translates to this: as you make more money, you pay more tax. The amount of taxable income that you earn determines which tax bracket(s) you fall into. While it is the goal of many taxpayers to keep their income in the lower tax bracket, remember that the gradual tax schedule ensures that not all of your income is taxed at a higher rate.
For example, if you move from the 25% tax bracket to the 28% tax bracket, you may think that all of your income is taxed at that higher rate. However, only the money that you earn within the 28% bracket is taxed at that rate.
So what are normal range refunds? I know you aim for zero bc it means you allocated correctly and didn't Give the government a loan but what do most people get a few grand or hundred
We never got a refund until we put the kids in daycare and DH started working only 1 job. The past 2 years we have gotten about $4000 back.
Me too! I'm nervous to watch because I was bawling uncontrollably at the preview commercial. I think I will go through an entire box of kleenex watching tonight.
