The CDC has openly admitted that the flu shot is ineffective (oh but get it anyway of course). There are studies that put the efficacy of the flu shot around 1%; additional naturally sourced. vitamin c and d will do a whole lot more for your immune system. It also contains 50,000 ppb of mercury, an extreme neurotoxin. At 200 ppb mercury it's considered hazardous waste. (So if a flu shot vial is dropped and broken they need to clear the area and dress in a hazmat suit to clean it - yep it's happened) Heavy metal contamination is cumulative and is absorbed by fatty tissues...aka the brain. If your child is teething, their body is producing histamines which opens the blood brain barrier making an open entry for neurotoxins (which is why you NEVER EVER vaccinate a teething baby) Neurotoxins in a developing brain have no happy ending. The warnings on the insert alone should be enough to convince anyone to run scared from it. If you want to be healthy, eat clean unprocessed foods including as many raw as you can (70% of your immune system is in your gut), exercise, laugh and get enough sleep. Then add a few naturally sourced vitamin supplements along the way, especially c and d.
Please SITE your sources.
god, i could read this stuff forever. these people (anti-vaxers) are legitamitely stupid simply b/c they think they are smarter than everyone.
Ooooh, LAUGHTER. Duh! Why didn't anyone think of that sooner? Those scientist and doctor dummies.
We need to launch a similar Internet/mommy blogger campaign in reverse.
No one wants to admit they are wrong and endangering their child (or other children). Those people are already lost causes unless something drastic or tragic happens to a loved one. I think they key is to continue educating the masses before they get to the vaccinating point. Too bad they don't have sweet PSAs or after school specials anymore.
NOT VACCINATED:
Remember the one where the cute girl is checking out the cute boy in the school hallway until she sees him light up a cigarette and then he's like "sorry I could never kiss a smoker." We need that, but for nonvaxxers.
ETA: I found it. I guess it was a joint and they were at some sort of preteen night club.

We have one confirmed case of measles, so I am now waiting for others to be diagnosed. 4 hours in Walmart. Over night in the ER. a few hours in the walk in clinic. Yep, someone else is going to get them around here. At least the CDC(??) is giving free MMR shots to people in the next few days. I wish I could drive some people there and force them to get the vaccine. grrr....

And, I am completely baffled that it seems easy to get around the requirement to be vaccinated for school in PA. This was printed in the newspaper:
Children need not be immunized if the parent, guardian or emancipated child objects in writing to the immunization on religious grounds or on the basis of a strong moral or ethical conviction similar to a religious belief.
So frustrating. But hold the phone - is there an RSV vax? My son had it as a baby and it was awful, but I didn't think there was a vax for it??
Oh, that's true. Lol. I'm just riled up. And there is, but it's only for preemies.
Yes the vaccine is only for preemies and a certain term. My son was 5 weeks premature and he didn't qualify (he did get RSV but luckily we caught it in the early stages and only had to do breathing treatments). Plus the vax is very expensive like 10-15k.
Part of my job is research. You know, the real kind with peer-reviewed studies and actual scientific data. The anti-vaxxer phrase "do your research" grates like nothing else.

oh, I have a lady that has posted she wishes she didn't vaccinate her kids now after all of the research she has done. And she is getting into essential oils and how healing they are and will use the do.te.rra when her kids get sick and if that would've been around when they were babies, she surely wouldn't have vaccinated. OH, and don't forget she has it.wor.ks so if anyone needs greens to help their immune system, she has them and they are all natural.
The thing is, we don't live in a crunchy area. We don't live in a super crunch state (like CA or CO). I was actually really surprised. Plus, apparently our public schools allow religious exemptions. Our preschool is jewish! I said that to the director and she told me anyone can write a note that says it's a religious conviction, even for a religion that has no contraindication.
I don't even have kids and anti-vaxxers enrage me. Hi, you're harming society.
Immunity drink? Double the chances of getting the flu after the flu shot? omfg. I read a comment by an anti-vaxxer just the other that said, and I quote, "Our fruitarian diet provides my kids with all the immunity they need." OMFG.

Ugh. A FB friend just posted that diseases eliminate the weak, and it is Darwinism. I told her that I didn't think that previously healthy children dying of preventable disease and not being able to carry on their genes was what Darwin was thinking of when he developed his theory of evolution.

I think the anti-vax movement voice is really loud. And that those of us who know the importance of vaccinating have just been kind of rolling our eyes, packing our bags quickly, and moving along without saying anything. I think it's time to stop doing that. I'm not talking about arguing with those who are firmly in the anti-vax cult. I'm talking about the vulnerable new mothers who are questioning what is right.
And, as someone else mentioned earlier, there is a father of a child with leukemia in CA who is asking the school district to not allow children who haven't been vaccinated (other than those who medically cannot be vaccinated) to be able to attend their public school.
There are only 2 states (Mississippi and West Virginia) that only allow medical exemptions for vaccinations. How can we change that in our states? I don't know, but I'd like to try to make it harder to receive these exemptions. There was just a thread on my local mom's group talking about how easy it is to get a religious exemption (these people are lying to the health department to obtain these).
Any idea how to change that? Letters to the legislature? Would that make any difference?

emsumm, I'm really surprised that your preschool allows unvax'd kids. We don't (Conservative synagogue) and I'm fairly sure that's the standard in our area. There's a family that wanted to send their kid(s) to our school, but refused to comply with a vax schedule, so we turned them away.
So, I've written the director. I'm going to try to influence the policy.
I found out there were unvaccinated kids at Henry's last school when he was small and kept getting pneumonia. It turned out he wasn't able to develop an immune response to the vaccine normally given to children, so I brought it up to the nurse one day and was shocked at the answer.
I'm guessing a lot of non-vaxers have never rushed their sick infant, then toddler, to the ER because he's struggling with breathing and has a 104 degree fever - again. Oh, and it was a different vaccine that fixed the problem. He went from having five cases of pneumonia, causing lung scarring, and any number of ear infections before the age of two to none in the past two years.
One thing that might make the anti vaxxers take notice is if less pediatricians will agree to treat their kids.
There was a report on TV yesterday of one dropping his kid patients whose parents refused to vaccinate because he felt he needed to protect the rest of his practice.
And organic essential oils. Just rub a lavender/peppermint blend on the measles, and walla.
I have people who legitimately believe this shit cures everything. From measles to EBOLA. I swear to god. She made a post about how she wanted to send her thieves, whatever that is, to Africa to help cure Ebola.

I agree in theory but I worry about the health ramifications for innocent and vulnerable children whose parents already have a track record of stupidity.

But their parents don't seem to worry about the health ramifications that their stupidity is causing for others.
Can you imagine the possible implications of a kid with measles showing up in a ped waiting room?

They are still going to show up somewhere. Or worse, for some things, go untreated and continue to spread disease.
I was really glad to get a note with DD2's kindergarten registration that apparently the CO legislature passed a law that took affect earlier this year to make it public record what the vaccination rates are at a given school -- public schools at least, I don't know if it covers private as well.
I don't think we have a lot of anti-vaxxers, but at least I'll have a better idea. It's definitely something on my radar -- there have been two cases of whooping cough at the school in the four years since DD1 started preschool there.
An article I was reading said that Colorado has one of the lowest vaccination percentages of any state. Fucking morons.
I'm glad you posted this though. I'm sure I'll be looking at the stats when my kid starts school. Of course, I'm also hoping that 5ish years from now, some of this will have 'died off' and people will have become smarter. Wishful thinking, I know.
