Dd needs to get her first pair of non-crib shoes. She is not walking yet but close I think. What shoes do you guys love for toddlers? (I can't believe I have an almost toddler).
We've always used Stride Rite. I think we had the "soft motion" ones when she was first standing/starting to take steps: www.striderite.com/en/view-all-step-2/
ETA: Not sure if it's the same in regular stores, but we go to the Stride Rite outlet near my parents' house and their shoes are always buy one, get one half off; we'll buy her current size and the next size up at the same time. It makes the price a little easier to swallow.

We bought stride rite when he was almost walking and he really didn't wear them for a few months. We kept him in Robeez. It seemed so much easier for him to walk in the soft soles. He would trip all over and have a hard time in the harder soles.
Since she started walking in the winter, I bought the HandSewnbyRobyn booties for her to start with. I'd put the Stride Rite SM on her periodically so she'd get used to them, and then the fleece booties for the rest of the day. She eventually started asking for her SR sneakers to be put on, so I just went with it and she has done great with them.

I would get something with a suede sole like mocs or the regular Robeez (not the mini shooz). Even the stride rite soft motion have a thicker sole (even though it flexes) that doesn't let them grip with their toes which they do a lot when learning how to walk.
We have both Stride Ride and SKR and I like them both equally. She had one pair of SKR smaller before she was actually walking but now that she is I much prefer the regular ones as they hold up outside.

We have Stride Rite soft motion. It's worth it to take them to the store at least once to get their feet measured. I had no idea A would need wide width. I knew his feet were fat on top, but they're also wide in general.
My kid has been walking since Halloween and we don't really put her in hard sole shoes. The pedi says barefoot still. She wore her hard sole shoes last weekend for the first time out & about.
So for now, you shouldn't use more than a moc of some sort. I bought ministar at target on sale and we use those to keep her feet warm since its really cold. Get a darker color because I got camel and being that the bottom is suede-like, they are really dirty and don't wash up well!
What do you do if you go outside? I thought mocs were indoor only. They seem like they'd get destroyed quickly running around the park/playground/etc.
