Michelle So you haven't played it, and hadn't heard of it before the article, but you're going to shame any of your friends that play it because one article said it was bad.
Are there any books you want to ban because you've heard they're bad while you're at it?
I wasn't shaming anyone. I asked her if she had seen it because I had JUST seen it.
I never said no one should play it. In fact, by relating it to my own juvenile sense of humor I implied I could see how it could start off hilarious.
I never said anyone was a bad person for playing it nor did I imply people should ban it.
I did say joking about date rape is gross but I don't know I they ever played that card or just had a methods for removing certain cards. And if you are supposed to be hard to offend to play the game my opinion that date rapes are gross shouldn't offend or shame anyone.
You WERE shaming her. C'mon now. The last statement proves it.

I honestly wasn't intentionally shaming her. She and I have had objective conversations plenty of times about evolving issues.
She could say, "Yeah, the game is not for the thin skinned. We don't play the date rape card." or "Yeah the game is meant to offend, kinda like South Park. you have to be in that frame of mind." And I'm like, "ok go on about your business."
I really AM that literal AND objective in exploring new ideas/topics.
If I think someone is a crap person for something I will just come out and say, "Dude you're a crap person for playing that/thinking that/doing that. Bye." and I would unfriend.
I am LOLing that Michelle is stacking out a claim on the opinion that "date rapes are gross." Boy, you're really out there alone on that one.
WTF is your problem Toledo?
I'm not staking a "claim" on that. The article gives a picture OF THAT CARD.
The person I showed the article to knows that I was date raped and would be incapable of laughing about it and would think it is gross.
The stuff about fisting grandma, big dicks, slurping cum - whatever - that stuff makes me laugh (12 year old boy humor). Looks like as the expansion packs come out they go from funny to just offensive and I was curious about her take on that.
Lol. My problem is that you resurrected a zombie thread to point out to everyone that enjoys this game that they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, and apparently wanted backpats for losing a FB friend for the bold stance of being against date rape.
The article you sent her says this: “I think the game perpetuates a pretty nasty culture: ‘Hey, look how enlightened I am because I’m beyond race/religion and can make nasty jokes about it!’” said Adrienne Ciskey, a game designer. “It comes across as a game for overly privileged hipsters who believe they are entitled to this lifestyle where everyone worships them to feel ‘in’ on the joke.”
I really don't know how you expected her to take this, but I find it extremely difficult to believe you thought it would go over just fine.
I can give you that. I should have read it more carefully regarding how she would take it, not an objective exercise in just "hey what are your thoughts on this?"
A mutual friend read it exactly as I intended it and had to bring to my attention I'd been unfriended. It really was that little of a deal for me to have brought it up.
But now that I know the question came across as shaming it is interesting to see how people react to being questioned about playing it. Do they feel guilty? Well that is for them to process and act on - or not - depending on how they process it.

But you will not see that this is how your post reads to most people because you are too thoroughly occupied with touting your superior moral stances.
You make SO many ASSumptions and projections of intent.
I was about to post, "hey has anyone heard of this game? See this article my friend shared on FB this weekend."
But I first searched to see if anyone had posted about it and picked up the thread from there to inquire. I'm not judging people for playing the game - unless you laugh at the date rape stuff, because if we shame politicians here for that we should shame ourselves too - but it seems like most people in this thread have played the first deck which seemed to be mostly innocuous and prepubescent boy humor, right up my alley.

Wait. You're not judging people for playing the game, but you think the reactions here are because people are ashamed of playing. Just so I'm clear.
The problem with Apples to Apples or CAH is that they get old very quickly. I need enough time to forget all the cards and jokes, there are only so many times in a row you can think those sorts of offensive jokes are funny.
Or expansion packs.
Like the article mentioned - a certain race's penis size, date rape, rufies, transphobia issues.
Oh come on. While big black dick is funny, a bigger blacker dick is by far the funniest card in the entire original game. Both came up (in the right order) the first time I ever played the game (after a friend was making a big deal about the big black dick card) and I was laughing so hard I almost passed out from lack of oxygen.

Thanks for asking - no I think that was the reactions of people on facebook.
I think the reaction of lucyhoneychurch is she sees another side is like, "how could you be so dense, michelle?"
I think the reaction of Toledo is, "i'm a massengil dripping cuntwitch who found another opportunity to jab at michelle."
I think you probably think more like lucyhoneychurch but don't I don't claim to know for sure.
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley

I am still dead (posting from the grave actually) from watching my DH's grandmother read the "big black dick" card - and then choose it as the winner - and then it turned out DH's other grandfather played the card.
I feel no guilt for playing this game. Unless you are from MY conservative family in which case yes, I played it and it was terrible and I will never play again and you should NEVER PLAY IT.

I played a super funny, maybe better than CAH, game over the weekend. Utter Nonsense. Essentially one person pulls a card that has an 'accent' on it - Valley Girl, German, Mumble, Queen's English, etc and everyone else has a outrageous statement on it (think CAH humor) they have to say in that accent. The person who pulls the accent card decides on the winner. It was fantastic.
I'm much more offended by the insults involving the c-word than I am by the date rape card.
sorry for offending - that is an old prior used reference here that was fitting.
Dude. Toledo and I rarely, rarely agree. But basically calling her that is not resurrecting an inside joke. When we joke about it, we don't use it to insult someone.
when I play with friends we always have a rule that if a card you draw is offensive to you it is okay to discard it. It is not a game for the easily offended and I make that clear when I host it for game night.

Oh, I hope my H doesn't ever find about this game. He loves to do accents and he is AWFUL at them. Really, really bad. I might have to divorce him before I would play this game with him.

Ooohhh... this looks great. I may have to order it and add it to our rotation!

This makes me think of Ice Cube saying nice things in a threatening manner.
