Today he and his girlfriend have handled looking for (and not finding) my mom's will, doing a preliminary clean up of her condo (food. Etc), contacting her workplace, her benefits and her insurance and funeral coverage. He hired a lawyer, because we have no name from my mom's paperwork. He got the death certificate.
From afar, I contacted the funeral home and organized her transport.
This has been a devastating day, but I am so thankful for the hard work we did today.
I'm sorry if you don't want to read about this, but I am just so proud of and thankful for my brother. And I know it may not seem like much, but collectively, we've never dealt with anything like this.
He sounds awesome. Don't worry about posting thinking someone doesn't want to read it. Everyone coming in here is ready to support you through an awful time.
I have been in a position to make sudden arrangements when someone dies unexpectedly. I found it to be therapeutic to make to-do lists and check things off. I am a doer. Your mom was blessed with children who just want to keep her best interests in mind. You guys are doing a great job. I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts as you work through the details.

this is exactly it. My brother and I deal with doing. My other brother and my sister deal in different ways.
